Rick, you have done amazing work on PD for years. And your dance helped launch my site; would have been silly without it. But your research is tough sledding for me because I was absent the day they taught science in school; as one of my closest friends said, "born ignorant; learned nothing since".
I wish you could write me a prescription like a doctor would. Take the yellow pills and the little white ones and the big white ones. I took the pills for four years without knowing their names. Silly names anyway - I thought Mirapex was a mountain in the Alps. I have always avoided paying attention to diet, vitamins, etc., preferring to pretend that none of this is really happening, reality is a crutch, there but for the grace of God go I... hey wait a minute! "There Go I" has in fact already gone. Reality is persistent. They weren't joking about progressive degeneration, although I feel offended that they call it "progressive". If that's progressive, I would rather be reactionary. Right now I don't feel so good. Don't read too good neither. And I went to get the mail and the doorknob came off in my hand, which alarms my superstition genes. Is there a "Rick's PD plan for Dummies"? A mixture of vitamins and things? They say listen to your own body but I really prefer to pretend it's actually not mine; just a mix-up at the coat check-in.

Quite interesting information Rick. I can see it is going to take some time to read and digest all of it. Thanks

Don't worry Bob

You aren't supposed to understand it. I'm aiming it at folks who actually have budgets and labs in hopes of shaking loose the darned dopamine fixation that has trapped PD research forso many years. This is the core of what Anne Frobert and I were working on. There's a lot more that I will be putting up from time to time, but this is the heart of it as I see it.

The nutshell version is that the bacterial toxin LPS sometimes gets past the fetal defense system at a bad time. This affects the immune and stress systems of the grown up in a way that creates a self-sustaining loop that eventually damages the brain and exhausts the endocrine system (sort of an adrenal fatigue) as well as interfering with neurofunction.

The immune component should respond to the right anti-inflammatory mix. The endocrine or stress component may be tougher. That is why someone with a real lab needs to look at this approach. It isn't original with me nor Anne. The bits and pieces have been in the literature for a long time. It's just that when something is spread across three or four disciplines, things get overlooked. I may be spitting in the wind, but it wouldn't be the first time. :D

Lps

I don't know about the LPS [is that bacteria or infection]? if you think of it -it wouldn't take much to help everyone understand , and I know i am the worst for clarity but it makes a big difference if you define something by writing it out the first time and after that every once in awhile. Then move to acronyms. i must have missed it if you ever did write it out.i read it once but don't recall for sure.

I've been trying to take that advice myself lately,...making an attempt to include all the information and key words.....lol

and that concludes the advice you didn't ask for.....

i just went back to your site - it is a masterpiece.!

dear rick,

your hypothesis is not the true answer- not a bad guess,
two shakey thumbs up!

I believe it is caused more by the environmental toxicity and the invasion of the mothers womb -
AND- vaccinations
AND
they have given bad drugs to women for years -
one is called - diethylstilbestrol = DES -which my mother took...
http://www.thefreelibrary.com/A+WOND.....-a0105758936
a multitude of toxins - like DDT, rotenone, monsanto-izum,
and...
mptp, - then there are tradegies of head injuries causing PD...
strokes can start the downward spiral of the brain degeneration,
as many people have a genetic marker - it does seem it is more prevalent
in families... however, I have experienced hypoglycemia/ and that was
my fork in the road to the beginning of brain damage...
all I can say is the brain needs to be fed, and evening primrose oil,
helps me, and co Q10 helps me -

this is the puzzle - and it hasnt been solved -thousands of pieces are missing
however -in my heart- the GDNF formula is the biggest key to healing
the brain... study what the GDNF is -
and take it from there...

Thank you so much Paula

Needless to say, I've been working my butt off on it and wondering if anyone would ever see it. Even we stoics appreciate a kudo. Thank you.

I assume that you found the link defining LPS. If not, let me know.

reverett123 11-29-2009 07:00 PM

We are both correct

One of the things about this approach that I will be getting into once I catch my breath is that these starting conditions of neuroinflammation and disrupted stress response make a big tent which can house many of the other explanations that have been proposed. For example, rotenone is bad news. But LPS synergizes with it and it all becomes very bad news. Metals such as mercury and aluminum are longtime suspects. LPS can make you allergic to them as well.

A leaky BBB is bad news, too. Chronic inflammation from LPS hypersensitivity increases its leakiness as well a that of the gut. A poor stress response adds to inflammation. It also causes constipation. So one has constipation, a leaky gut, failing BBB, and toxins in the brain.

Things start to fall into place very rapidly. More men than women get PD? Estrogen protects against inflammation. Farmers get it more than others? They work in a cloud of LPS laden dust.

There are a doxen more things like that. Observations that any valid explanation has to explain. I'm sure there will be some that elude me, but so far most things fit. Stay tuned for the next installment. :D
