Ultradian cycling?

I had my appointment with my pdoc yesterday and all and all it went very good. I had my mood journal all filled and this time I was very thorough and wrote down my feelings exactly as I was feeling for a change.

After looking at my mood journal she said I'm showing signs of "ultradian cycling". I just googled it and it seems like the roller coaster ride I've been on so it explains it. But she was concerned about it and increased my Depakote to 3000mg a day.

Now she just called and wants me to have my liver enzymes checked. Does anyone know what this is all about and why she'd want me to have my liver checked?

Ultradian cycling

This intrigued me, so I looked it up.

I am a rapid cycling bipolar, which they say is a person having four or more mood episodes in a year.

From what I looked up, it looks like Ultradian cycling is having more than four in a year, and describes that they can occur in week intervals or even all in one day.

Here is a site I saw:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ultradian

About the liver enzymes-it appears that anti seizure medications can cause liver enzyme elevation-not sure on this, maybe some one else can add to this, but it looks like they check it early on, to see if it affects you to be on the safe side. If you have an insert on side effects of the depakote, I would check that to see posible side effects, maybe it would explain it???

I know when I took lithium, I had to have interval blood tests to check for kidney function.

Yes, depakote is a med that you need to watch liver enzymes for. I did the same for neurontin and other meds I was on at one time or another.
No biggie, just like any other blood work.

Depakote was the med that stabilized me and allowed me to stop self medicating with illegal drugs and alcohol and pick up the pieces after I crashed and burned so hard.

I had to stop taking it due to highly elevated liver enzymes. It was actually my primary care doc who called after an annual physical and said I had to stop taking it immediately.

We found other meds. Other people tolerate it better than that.

It was my bad as usual.:( I was posting at work and I'm not allowed to. My boss kept walking by and I kept having to minimize it. I'm an accountant and I'm used to putting zeros on the end. I meant to put the . in and forgot before I posted it. So I meant to put 30.00mg not 3000.

But thanks for the advice.
