pain down the left side of my face

Hi

I was wanting to know if anyone can help .

I have had a pain down the left side of my face starting in between the jaw and up in to my eye for nearly a year now. the pain in unbearable i have to lay down untill the pain killers kick in and sometimes my left eye looses vision ( blurring ) and sometimes a tingling feeling.
I have been to the opticians and he could not understand why my good eye has gone like that, been to eye clinic for tests and found no problems.

I am awaiting an appointment with the neurologist.

Does anyone have any ideas on what could be causing this problem.

Kind Regards
jenna :)

Hi Jenna, welcome to the community--sorry you have to be here, but it's a good place to be!

I'm glad you have an appointment with the neurologist. There are a number of things it COULD be, so I'm not trying to diagnose, but you might look through this forum and see if anything sounds familiar:

Hi jenna,
Welcome to NT. I am glad you found us. You probably will get some good answers to your questions, if you post on a few forums we have here. You got a list from B2U. Hopefully you will find out when you see your Neurologist soon what his opinion is..

Good luck and nice to meet you. :)

Hi and welcome

Sounds like you're on the right path, with the neuro appointment.

Did you have any injuries/illinesses/procedures/dental work anywhere on your body prior to the onset of this phenomenon. You could be experiencing referred pain because of something that happened to your body that wouldn't be related to the area. It's kind of unique how we're wired up. Maybe myofascial release/crainal trigger point release therapy might help if the neuro don't pinpoint a cause and fix it. I had TMJ symptoms from my scalenes (in the side/front of your neck that caused tightness/popping/cracking in my jaws. I also had botox in my scalenes that gave me total relief from the TMJ symptoms for about 2 - 3 weeks. I think I had botox 3 times and each time my TMJ was relieved. So, hang in there till you get the neuro opinion. Happy to report, I'm not experiencing the TMJ problems anymore.

I hope you find some answers and get relief soon.

Hi

The neurologist will check you out and hopefully can help you with some simple explanation - we all want simple, right? There could be various explanations and it is possible the two issues aren't related, even if it seems like they are.

I have migraines and at times they have been bad enough to be similar to what you describe. I also have trigeminal neuralgia which sounds a lot like what you have. I have it mostly on my right side, but get it on both sides of my face. It is supposed to be the most painful thing you can go through, though I have been through worse. If the neurologist finds that it is TN, there is medication you can take. Mine is worse in the winter with the cold air.

Hi Jenna:

Just wanted to stop and say hi.

Your symptoms sound a lot like what my friend had many years ago. She went to the doctor and he called it an OCULAR MIGRAINE.

She took Imitrex.

Not saying that's what you have. Only your neuro can (hopefully) tell you exactly what you have.

You poor thing.

Pain is a bi*ch.

I only hope you get some relief.

You will be in my prayers tonight.

Melody
