Docs saying "everything"is fibro???

Iwas just wondering if anyone diagnosed with fibro ever gets the brushoff when they go to the doctor about a new pain?
I seem to have encountered this alot!!
Since i was diagnosed last Jan.I have had this chronin pan in my upper shoulder/neck along w/burning.I also get numb right at the base of my neck.I kept telling 3 of my doctors that i just knew it was more than fibro..Yet they would tell me they thought i needed to learn to live with it!!!
It is just awful!!!I cant stand for long or sit for long..W/out it starting to act up.The only way i can stop it is to lay flat on my back..Which is no way to live!!
So anyway..I finally got my primary care doc to listen me and i am going for an MRI on tuesday.

Iwas just wondering..How do you deal with this??
I try to be nice when i go to see the doctor -but i'm starting to think..I'm too nice!!

I hate to say this but you gotta be a real pain in the butt sometimes to your docs to get things done. FM and chronic pain in general is something that most docs don't know how to handle nevermind the people who have it. According to what I read, in the past doctors were never taught how to deal with chronic pain that was non-malignant or non-cancerous.
Only recently have doctors become more aware of those of us who live in constant chronic pain because we spoke up and made them give us the care we need.
It is tiring and a real fight sometimes but you have to speak up sometimes. The squeaky wheel and all.
Good luck with your MRI.

Wendy's pretty right, Kell. You gotta stand up to the guy and make him understand that you know what you're talking about. Tell him that you are quite famiar with your fibro symptoms, and this pain falls competely outside of that spectrum. It might also help to tell him that your PC agrees with you. One way or another, make him listen to what you have to say. I know this test is very important to you, and hope everything turns out right.

I agree with the others. You just have to stand up for yourself and be insistent.

I'm lucky in that my pdoc doesn't take anything for granted with me. He said I always present with something in different ways and he usually is very thorough about checking. He doesn't take for granted that my problems are fibro-related.
