Hi everyone

This is my first post, I am a 67 year old female, 2 years ago I had breast cancer I was lucky it was stage 1, had radiation for 8 weeks after surgery and everything seems fine, a year ,after started getting pins and needles in hands it has now progressed just passed the elbows and the legs have the same symptoms up to the knees. From being active a year ago I have now a walker, everything I touch feels like barbed wire. Had 3 EMG's and each one showed more deteriation the neurologist said it was peripheral neuropathy with unknown origin,as you all know who suffer with this it certainly isn't fun. All the blood work I had was fine. I am taking gabapentine 2400 a day, 2 Tylenol. 3 twice a day and at night 2-Tylenol 3 and lorazepam. I always get a good nights sleep. After reading the threads I got interested in the vitamin part I have started taking 2000 a day of B12, I also take C,D, Omega 3 Aspirin(low dose) and cod liver oil, not sure how much of these I should take, or if there is anything else I could take.I am fairly healthy otherwise but the pain from this in my arms and legs nearly leave me bedridden. Any help would be appreciated.

Hello Fryer!

Welcome to NT!

You've come to a wonderful place of support and understanding!
Congratulations on your triumph over breast cancer!

I'm sorry about these lingering symptoms you are battling now. You certainly aren't alone, though. If you haven't already found the Peripheral Neuropathy forum, here's the link to take you there:

There is so much good information there. I'm glad you've taken to the vitamin threads that are available up in the top section of the PN forum, called the 'Stickies'. Good Good stuff :)

Make yourself right at home!
It's great to have you!

Caring,
Rae

Hi dear Fryer -- I'm 63, also female, and also had breast cancer - had a lumpectomy and radiation for 6 weeks.

I also have neuropathy, and I'm NOT on Gabapentin cause it didn't work worth a darn for me, plus it made me retain water ALOT and it also made me feel loopy!

I'm on Topamax 400mg. per day, and I have NO PAIN. It took away ALL the burning, zapping, everything! I've been on it quite awhile, and I haven't needed a dose increase! It works great for me! And I don't retain water, and I don't feel loopy like I did on Gabapentin! Topamax works MUCH better for me than Gabapentin did.

Maybe you need to try something else! Ask your doctor. Tell him the Gabapentin isn't working very well, and you still have pain. I sure would. I wouldn't suffer like that. No way.

I wish you the very best. If you have any questions about Topamax or anything else, or just want to talk, please feel free to message me, ok? God bless and please take care. Hugs, Lee :)
