? Cymbalta

Thanks to everyone who answered my question on having a sympathectomy. You have all made me feel that I made the right decision not to have it done..Thank-you. I was recently given cymbalta by my PM doctor. She said it is one of the newest drugs to treat nerve pain and that the side effects are milder than lyrica and neurontin. After taking the first dose I was up all night unable to sleep even though I was exhausted . Also I had episodes of severe chills off and on for 24 hours. I haven't taken another dose and am wondering if anyone else has taken it and what your experiences have been. Hope everyone is doing O.K. Thanks again.

I also had a very bad reaction to CYMBALTA was in ER. was summer time had to wear a coat- "very very" cold and hot at same time --they took me off it right away--couldn't take the neurontin or lyrica I'm not taken any more of
that stuff it is very scary every one reacts so different.
GOOD LUCK

Hubby just started this med too........I'm wondering now if this is why he is having problems with his legs and being weak....... When he was on Tramadol there were side effects that the ER doc knew about but were not posted on any of the websites. Tonight I was looking up Cymbalta and although none of what he has been experiencing today was listed I have reason to believe (after what happened with the Tramadol) that they are not always posted and/or listed and I need to do more research.

Thanks for the original post on this this could be useful to me. :)

I Also Had A Severe Reaction To Cymbalta ... I'm Wondering, Does It Work For Anyone??? It Seems As If It Is Very Dangerous From All I Have Heard.

I guess I am one of the few that can take cymbalta and have been taking it for about one year. For me it works ok. Before I had started taking Cymbalta, I had just had TOS surgery and started to get some sever burning on my arm near the ulnar nerve. My PCP started me on Cymbalta 60mg it took about 2 weeks and the burning started to disapate.
Now my dosage has been increased to 120mg. I had started taking the additional 60mg in the am and it made me so tired that I wanted to fall asleep where I stood. I was then told to try taking the additional 60mg at bedtime with the 60mg I am currently on taking the 120mg at bed time which then worked out ok.
Since my 2nd TOS surgery in Jan 07, I have had a increase in nerve pain and hyper sensativity. The increase doseage in the Cymbalta hasn't helped the nerve related problems in my right arm as much as it did with my first TOS surgery. But the other nerve pain I experiance has stayed at low levels.
I guess I am just one of those people that can take just about anything. My only problem is getting something to acually work on me. I had tried numerous other meds for my nerve related pain and nothing else worked.
Best of luck to you.

well glad to see it helps someone without problems. i wondered if it was the combination of my neurontin with the cymbalta. i can't function without my neurontin.

Apparently, from what I have heard (from a very reputable Dr.) is that Cymbalta should NEVER be used in conjunction with Neurontin or Lyrica. They have found that Cymbalta can do the same thing as N & L and the combination and taking of the two at the same time is NOT good.

i went to my doctor this week and he asked if i was still on the cymbalta and i said .... no remember it almost killed me? ... and he said oh, did we wean you off the neurontin first? ... and i said no ... and he said oh there is material out now that you should not combine the two .... and now i see you saying that. there was nothing about it when i took it as far as i know. so he wanted to know if i wanted to switch but i chicken out.
thanks for giving that info. joan

Doc said the same thing - That if they wanted him on the Cymbalta that he should have been weaned off the Lyrica...

Isn't it amazing the combos most docs will throw together and not bat an eye at it!?

Cymbalta, like Neurontin and Lyrica made me pass out for 2 days. My body can't tolerate those drugs for some reason. I tried them at different stages and none of them worked. I try anything they recommend but antidepressants and nerve drugs just knock me on my butt, sure there is lots of padding ;) but not fun!
