Neuro suggested 2nd Opinion/Sister has 'drop attacks'
 

Hi all,
I have 2 questions!
Saw my neuro last week (MS specialist) for follow up of MRI and Myasthenia Gravis blood results - both normal.

She doesn't know what's wrong with me, and admitted 'she doesn't know everything' and to look at getting a second opinion at some point down the track.

I didn't think that point would come so soon.
Sx have flared up again without much overexertion. It's been a month again (that was the length of my last little 'remission' phase).

I plan to call the neuro tomorrow and discuss getting that 2nd opinion.
I have no idea if she wants me to see a collegue of hers, of someone else.

Has anyone else has this experience - your neuro actually sending you for a 2nd opinion?
Should I see someone independant?

My sister with suspected MS is seeing her 2nd opinion neuro. Maybe I should see him?
She has numbness, tingling, loss of use of her arm at times, sensory sx etc etc (similar to me) but she has 'drop attacks', where she colapses and is paralysed completely for about 10mins (can hear but can't speak) , then slowly regains use of her limbs over 1-2 days.
Her neuro said that's not typical MS, but could be a rare form?
Anyone heard of that?

In all my reading of MS, I've never heard of "drop attacks" WTH???

Could that be some kind of seizure?

Not really like what happened to me, but a couple years back, I had a couple times when I just lost all body strength and went down like a rag doll. Recovered in seconds, like nothing ever happened.

But I never thought ms. It was probably my spine thing, I figure. Very scary, whatever it was. I did not lose consciousness at all, just muscle control.

And yes, I did have my neuro say to get another opinion - my 4th neuro said that.

Nah. If there aren't enough clues by now, I'm just waiting. If he can't figure this out, there's no one in town who can. But that's me, and this has been a long ordeal.

Well, i feel better knowing your neuro (4th!) suggested a 2nd opinion too.

I called mine today and she's happy to refer me. All she said was she'll think about who, whether it'll be an MS specialist or not, but she did say a male this time?? She has a female collegue but, she'll suggest a male. I didn't ask why.

My sx are so much worse last couple of days. ahhhh
I've been so close to getting a stick. I had to use my 7yo son today for support when walking back to the car. NOT GOOD.
I just can't bring myself to buy one. I'd be more embarrased (and maybe hurt physically) if I fell though...

I knew a guy who was suspected of having MS because he would drop this way, and be paralyzed. Turned out he had
periodic paralysis...

It can be difficult getting the proper diagnosis for this.

In patients with the hypokalemic (low potassium) form the

Get the cane. I have one, and almost never need it. But when I do, I do and there it is.

Between the vertigo and this nerve pain, there have been a handful of times I would not have wanted to get off my butt without the stick. And to heck with what other people think, you know?

I agree about the cane.
I put off buying one for months when I should have. I was finally forced to because we were going to Disneyland and my husband said it's either the cane or the motorized wheelchair, pick one. I picked the cane (wish I'd picked the wheelchair, I was hurting for days!)

Now it's here if I need it. I use it from time to time but usually I don't need to. It is nice knowing it's there though and that I don't have to cancel family outings if my legs aren't doing so hot that day.

yes, I should get the cane - but as soon as I get to thinking about getting one, my legs get better, and I'm ok... until next time.. Yes probably should have it for 'next time' though.
