What a horrible neurologist...
 

Okay, this happened about a week ago. I went to see a neurologist for the first time. I spent time searching and searching for one that specializes in head trauma and found this guy name Dr. Shanker Dixit. I went to my appointment on the 22nd of this month and it just felt like he was trying to get me in and out of there. He asked me about my symptoms, I told him each individual one. I told him about the "feeling like a mental patient" thing I'm going through and told him how much it was bothering me. You know what he had to say? "You have post-concussion syndrome and your depressed". That's it. He prescribed me some Prozac (which I didn't even fill) and some headache stuff. He didn't try to explain why these things were happening, give me any suggestions or nothing...I take that back, he suggested that I get a job to get my mind off my symptoms. What is wrong with this guy? I asked for an MRI (I haven't had one done since my injury in June, just CT scans) and I told him about my high blood pressure and he COMPLETELY ignored me.

I don't think I'm going to my next appointment with him.

Can anyone suggest to me a website that shows TBI specialists for certain areas? I can't seem to find anything and I don't like this doctor at all.

You ran into a doctor who blew you off so to speak. I am sorry that happened to you. There are much more compassionate doctors out there. If you have a PCP, ask for a referal from him. I would definately seek out another doctor, who will actually have a conversation with you. The one you had was was not interested enough to take the time with you and is not worth seeing again. I would call a physicians referal line if I had to, to find another neuro specialist. I hope you can find the kind of doctor, that will treat the whole person. My neuro surgeon was absolutly the best, and in all respects guided me through my surgery and recovery. I hope you are able to find this kind of physician soon. don't give up, and keep looking. ginnie

i haven't found a neuro that i like either...they all want to prescribe anxiety drugs but i didn't want to take them. One actually told me that my brain is healed and its an underlying anxiety that manifested itself...and i need a therapist. I told him I didn't buy it! He was handing me a prescript for lexapro too.

I hate taking the meds..the only thing I will take is ambien so I can actually sleep!!

Check for an infection in your body. Blood test, urine test and chest x-ray.

If no infection, it's probably normal. Do you have anxiety or depression?

about 2 months ago had a series of blood test done and everything was normal ..even my thyroid - which i'm on thyroid meds for years now.

i never had what you experienced...that must have been scary. Do you feel back to regular symptoms? I notice my symptoms flare up for a few days after doing too much too but then get back to where I left off.

I know I'm getting a little better. I remember getting my nails done a year ago and had to come home and take a nap for an hour. Or taking a shower at 11am was all i could do until 3:30 when the kids got home from school.
