Hello

Just dropping by to say hi. I am in my 20s, in excruciating pain in my throat for 3 months now. Maybe you all can help me out :) I was diagnosed as having Glossopharyngeal neuralgia. It is extremely painful and irritating. But I'm keeping the faith! Any help, welcome or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Hi there,

This sounds akin to, and as misery-inducing as Trigeminal Neuralgia. I am sorry you are suffering with this.

Have you seen a Neurologist? I would assume one would, at least, try you on an anti-convulsant like Gabapentin or (like me) Topiramate. I am sorry I do not know of cause or possible surgical intervention options.

Dave.

You poor thing!
I had no idea what that was and looked it up.
I have facial neuralgia(suspected trigeminal neuralgia) and it is very painful.
In your throat must be just awful.
That is terrible to deal with a pain like that at such an early age.
I take Lyrica for my neuropathy and opiates(I have secondary pain issues).

I just pulled this off the website of a clinic that deals with GN.
Looks like there are several options for treatment.

I wish you the best in your research quest.
So sorry you have to deal with this.
Lots of knowledgable and helpful people on these forums.

take care,

Thank you Diandra. And thank you for the website. It is awful having painful nerves act up in your throat. Everyday I wake up thinking the pain would be gone but it's still there. Hoping to see a neurologist. This is truly one of the worse pains possible and I ask God why; I'm just starting out my life. I put my faith in Him otherwise everything seems hopeless. But with God, this too shall pass ( I hope). non stop pain in throat 24/7, only not felt when sleeping but instantly returns upon awaking. I hope to find a way to deal with and eventually stop the pain. Again, thank you for responding. God bless
