Exercising makes me hungry thru out the day....

Just wanted to ask you this question.
SInce I have started exercising...I feel like I am hungry all of the tiem.
I am also eating more and not feeling satisfied at all.
I have actually gained a couple of pounds and is very discouraging.
(I know they say that muscle weighs more than fat....)
anyone else experience this?

Hi Bizi, I can relate to the being hungry after exercising. I also get hungry after doing what exercise I can do. I wonder if we ate something healthy or maybe high protein before the workout if that would help? I do try to have fruit and a banana afterwards but it doens't always fill me up. Hopefully someone who knows about that sort of thing will pop in and give us some clues. Anyway welcome to the group...Sue:)

We need measuring cups & spoon's~

Yes Bizi,
I have had lots of trouble with it. My main trouble with it is portion size. I know I should measure every thing and I just don't do it. I can't exercise much now since I have had major surgery little over 2 1/2 weeks ago.

What I do is skip a meal or two. I wouldn't recommed this be done tho. But it works for me. Mainly my excerise is to walk each day and build from that. I am trying to stay with that,
Blessings,
Fancylady:)

sometimes...

increased appetite is from a craving your body needs for a certain nutrient
expended from the exercise...

Primarily--- potassium
but also B6 and magnesium as well.

I drink a can of V8 after exercise and that helps for me.
Also when I exercise ALOT I use l-carnitine before, this helps alot. This helps the mitochondria to burn fatty acids for energy...so you don't go low sugar (hypoglycemic) and then get hungry.

Dear Fancylady,
I hope yopu are on the mend from you surgery!
thanks you guys for the info.
I have been using the slimfast shakes. optima in the mornings before my 45 minute workout. after that I eat a bar of sorts and then some cheese which I recently added...forgot about it helping with the cravings...that has seemed to help. I tend to snack in the afternoons on pumpkin seeds and peanuts....they also seem to help...I feel like I HAVE to eat about every 3 hours...I have never felt this way.
thanks for your input and I like v8 juice alot...expensive though.

eating well is expensive!

mrsD 09-23-2006 05:18 PM

yes....

eating well is expensive sometimes (if you don't have Sam's Club or Costco)

but YOU are WORTH IT.... remember that.

I use to have this problem as well, but have found that it has stopped.
Some things that I believe have helped me:
Consistently taking a multi-vitamin, calcium/magnesium supplement and a B Complex
I drink Smart Water while exercising. This has Potassium in it. I also sometimes drink Propel water. I drink regular bottled water at other times, but when I exercise, I try to drink a specialized water with potassium in it.
Oh, I try to drink a third of the bottle before hand and the rest during my routine.
Slight increase in healthy low fat protein intake (chicken, salmon, low fat cheese, etc.)
Totally agree with Mrs. D...eating well is expensive, but so very worth it!
The benefits are outstanding.
You will save money in the end in health care and will enjoy each day more fully...being able to give to others in a more complete way.
Best wishes.

Is this the name of it? I could go some place and get Smart Water? Like Kmart or Target? Thanks!

Actually, my son and his girlfriend tease me all the time about the Smart Water. That's the actual name.
It's a little expensive.
I was looking for something with potassium in it and it fit the bill.
I'm not a scientist, I'm a writer and have an interest in nutrition.
I bought it at my regular grocery store. However, I have also seen it at Wild Oats (natural food store).
Perhaps it will eventually be available at places like Target. I wouldn't doubt it.
I sometimes drink Propel Water. My daughter's doctor drinks this when she exercises. You can get this anywhere.
A friend of mine, a biology professor, drinks water mixed with a little gatorade.
All of these things probably have potassium...the key ingredient.
To the best of my knowledge, all of us only drink these items when exercising...so it's not over the top expensive.
