low blood pressure and Lyrica????
 

Hello all! I have a rather urgent question to ask of you all. Has anyone else had problems with low blood pressure while on Lyrica??? They put me on it a week ago. I ONLY take it once a day so far.....trying to adjust slowly. I was taking it at night, but was having trouble sleeping, I thought Lyrica could be the culprit, so decided to take it with my mid-afternoon meds instead.

Anyway, when I get up to walk, I almost pass out.....feel like I can't breathe well. Also, I can't hear for a few minutes (my hearing fades out quickly and then slowly returns to normal). I didn't notice some of these side effects before because, well, I took it at bedtime.....I didn't want to hear anything OR walk.

I've read the patient insert and don't remember reading anything about this. My doc is gone for the day. My hubby just had to help me get up the stairs into bed. My blood pressure is 95/60, pulse 63 (we have a BP machine here). I've had low blood pressure before but NEVER with the loss of hearing. :eek:

Other than calling the doc tomorrow and stop taking the med....does anyone have any suggestions or input??? Could this just be the RSD??? It is all so new to me. Thanks in advance for your advice!!!

Since it wasn't happening before the lyrica, it's very likely that that's the culprit here. I've always had low blood pressure myself and I will sometimes get those same feelings you have now. Feeling like I'm going to pass out,hearing seems to fade, like you're going deaf. It's happened to me my whole life so I'm used to it. LOL I can see why it would be scary to someone who's never had that happen before though.

All I can suggest is to not bend over quickly or get up from a sitting or laying down position fast either. If you're lying down......sit up slowly on the edge of the couch or bed and just sit there for a minute or so. That gives your body time to adjust. When sitting, get up slow and if you feel faint, sit back down and do the old head between the knees thing. :) It really does work! These are the things I've always done and it helps.

I suspect taking the lyrica isn't a good idea for you. Let me know what the doc says.

One of the side effects of Lyrica is Dizziness....

I too had the same problems you are describing...but after the Lyrica had been in my system for a while the side effects eased up.

I've always had low blood pressure... 85/55 but it's been all over the place since being diagnosed with RSD. Also my heart rate has went from a normal resting rate of 60 pre-rsd to 80+ now.

My guess would be that the Lyrica isn't right for you plus it was likely interacting with your other medicines in a bad way..:eek:If you continue
to take the Lyrica, take it alone and take your other meds later on
and see if that helps.

Keep trying to reach your Doctor..Talk to his nurse if you are unable to reach him.. Sounds to me like you need a different medicine pronto!

My daughter was started on Lyrica and she has low blood pressure to begin with. She had a bout with RSD in her foot and ankle. The pain doctor at the hospital put her on Lyrica 75mg twice a day. Her blood pressure dropped to 47/38 the first night. She continued to take the Lyrica and eventually it went up. I found a website that says that some of the rare side effects can be low blood pressure, you should call your doc right away. Is
95/60 considered low blood pressure? Because her normal blood pressure on blood pressure meds is around that. Anyway, When we went for a follow up appointment with a new pain doc, she took her off of the Lyrica, due to her having low blood pressure as an illness, she said it lowers blood pressure. But you have to be weined off of Lyrica, you can not stop cold turkey, so CALL your doctor before you make any decisions or go to the ER. Good luck and I hope your pain relieves soon.

Hi, I am so sorry you are having these problems. I am taking Neurotin, so I can't comment on the Lyrica...but I have extremely low blood pressure too. There seems to be a simular thread here I wonder who else has low blood pressure, normally, then changes with RSD???

Thanks to all who responded. I will call and talk to the nurse tomorrow. I don't want them to put me on anything else. I really just want for my body to stabilize from the injections, the extra muscle relaxants that I HAVE to take for my jerking and twitching (which is worse than the nerve pain for me). The Lyrica may not like me taking Advil along with it.....the only other thing I was taking with it was my muscle relaxant. I am just really, really sensitive to meds and med changes. I need for my body to rest. Since I was only taking one Lyrica a day (for only a week) and it's only 50mg, I think I should be able to come right off of it for a while. The dizziness didn't worry me as much (although a nuisance) as the loss of hearing. That has NEVER happened to me. That would happen independant of the dizziness even.

Again, thanks for all your response. I hope to finally get some sleep tonight. I fell asleep at 7 and got up at 9. I took my sleepy meds but they're not working well.

Hey!! Anyone else having trouble typing??? This has started recently too. I don't have RSD in my hands (that I know of) but I am making typo's after typo's that I have to back up and correct. I NEVER used to struggle with this. I'm not the fastest typist but I'm usually at least accurate. Now I screw up constantly. I hate this beast.

What the heck???!!!! I thought I was taking Lyrica to get RID of most of these problems!!! Now they're saying the MED can cause them. So......how do I know if the med is helping or not????

Ok....so that answers everything except for the hearing thing. I didn't read anything in there about that.

I think the low blood pressure issue is relative with me. I think it DROPS suddenly.....from 110/something to 80/something.......THAT seems to be the problem with me. I used to have the same problem with blood sugar....it was the sudden drop......even if it was still in the "normal" range.
