I can't bring up Itunes

Okay, here is what is happening.

I kept getting a message telling me to uninstall my itunes and re-install it. So I did. I have a 64 bit system and it told me to download Itunes for a 64 bit system. Which I have done.

When I click on the Itunes icon on my desktop I get the following message

"For best results with Itunes, use a screen resolution of at least 1024 x 768."

My screen resolution is 1280 x 1024 with the word Recommended next to it.

So if 1280 x 1024 is HIGHER than 1024 x 768, why can't I view my itunes.

There is also the following message

"The file "ituneslibrary.itl" cannot be read because it was created by a newer version of itunes"

What the heck does all this mean?

I just want to sync up my ipod with the tunes I had on my computer. Are they gone?

Thanks much

Melody

I don't have it so I don't know but I typed ituneslibrary.itl not working into google and it came up with a number of solutions. You might want to try that Melody.

Here's one example.

Okay, I clicked on the link and read the following:

"Hello there,

It's very easy. just go to C:\Users\(your username)\Music\iTunes and rename the file iTunes Library.itl to iTunes Library.OLD

..... than Open your iTunes, got to "Help" --> "Check For Update". Once you update iTunes, go back to "C:\Users\(your username)\Music\iTunes" rename newly created "iTunes Library.itl" to "iTunes Library.NEW" and your old file, "iTunes Library.OLD" rename back to "iTunes Library.itl".

You will be able to open your iTunes and all Libraries with in.

Seriously?????

lol lol lol

OMG!!! You understood this??

It'd help if I had itunes. That was just one example that came up in google search. There were many so it must be a common problem.

Hopefully someone who has it will come along and be able to guide you. lol

I printed out all the instructions. I then went to where it says Search and I typed in what it said to type in. The problem is I can't remember what my user ID is. I typed in first name, first and last name, everything I could remember. I get the message 'cannot find blah blah.

So I'm screwed right?

What are the iTunes library files?

Summary

The iTunes library is a database iTunes uses to organize your music. Two iTunes library files are created and maintained by iTunes for different purposes. They're both in the iTunes folder.
I would also check for that error on the Apple site, Melody?

Well, what can I say!!!!

YOU'RE A GENIUS.

I went to the apple site, I clicked on one of the links and there it was in front of me. Just hold (and keep holding down) the Shift key while you bring up itunes. The key is not to let go of the Shift Key.

Well, I did just that, it brought up an option to "choose from a previous Library". I chose one of the earlier ones. And there in front of me where ALL MY SONGS.

It then said I had to transfer what I had on my Ipod to this Library or else it would delete the songs from my IPOD. I did just that. Then it synched up the whole thing and now I have ALL my songs.

Could have not done this without you.

I am now bopping down the street as I walk to breakfast in the morning.

This 65 year old youngster thanks you very much. lol

I'll have to try that cause my ipod won't sync and I don't want to buy a new one. I think Apple stinks for releasing a new version and not allowing you to keep old version. Microsoft lets you switch between some versions of applications and you can also go online to create and save data.
