It is my understanding that prednisone causes increased eye pressure. It did in my case, anyway.
Also, the profound weakness I had caused narrow angle glaucoma, which I was already predisposed to because of the structure of my eyes. I did not know any of this till it happened. So with the increased pressures and closing of the angles, I had to have laser treatment to correct this. As soon as I went back for a recheck after laser, I started getting retinal tearing, which also had to be fixed with a laser.

Prednisone will also accelerate cataract forming.
I don't really know anything about the causes of macular degeneration.

Macular degeneration is often age-related. There is some information about it here Facts About Age-Related Macular Degeneration | National Eye Institute.

I'm sorry you guys are having eye issues. It's bad enough that we have double vision!

Diet has been shown to be important with macular degeneration as well.

Nutrients are vital to health. Many people often underestimate their importance.

Exercise seems to be an important factor, probably due to how it improves circulation. That's always a tricky thing to do with MG.

Whirlwind, I hope that you can keep it from progressing. Do you take methylcobalamin B12 daily? There are many studies about how important B12 is to overall health and to preventing cataracts.

This one is interesting. Don't put anything into the eyes without speaking to an ophthalmologist first!

Do you have dry eye/Sjogren's?

I hope you'll at least consider some alternative medicine in addition to what is being done!

I have myasthenia gravis and I also have the start of macular degeneration (dry) which was discovered approximately 5 years ago when I was having many eye problems some related to myasthenia gravis and some not! It was actually my optician who noticed it not the eye hospital! No surprise there! (NHS) . In my case it runs in our family , great grandma , grandma and two aunties with it my grandma and one auntie has the wet which you need injections for very quickly or you can become blind as my auntie has in one eye. I was told to eat a handful of walnuts everyday and eat plenty of spinach and green veg it's supposed to slow the progression of the disease down but I don't know if that is true or not. I also have an auntie with myasthenia gravis and my daughter has recently tested positive for it with many symptoms we are waiting for her to see a decent neurologist! NHS again!! i am taking mestinon but never taken predisolone I have read something on the internet saying that few people do have myasthenia gravis and macular degeneration but it didn't say anything about it making it worse :)
