New Member hoping to find answers

Can't remember how I found this forum! but am thankful to have done so. I am a retired Sociology professor - having retired last year at 52 due to fibromyalgia. Gave found a great deal of relief for that from Lyrica. However, my interest in this forum is due to having developed - over a four-week period - blurry vision and severe photophobia. I suspected the Lyrica but ended up at a Neuro Opthamologist who said it was malnutrition. They can see nothing wrong with the eye itself though my vision is 20/225. I do have other symptoms of anemia that I now realize date back six months; PN (with pain), swollen feet, muscle weakness, etc. My curiosity is how - what are the mechanisms - that can cause this devastating loss of sight though my eyes look healthy? - and wanting some time line on when I might expect recovery as I am doing a super nutritious diet and high levels of supplements. I will continue to explore and would love to know where to post - what forum? - to get some answers. Please excuse any misspelling as I can barely read this post with a magnifying glass!

TIA,
Jean

Hi, Trippsmom! :Wave-Hello: Welcome to NeuroTalk!

We have many forums specific to your different concerns. If you visit the main index, you will find the rather extensive list.

Further, we have a search engine located in the toolbar near the top of every page that will help you locate existing discussions about specific symptoms. Feel free to join in or start a new thread anywhere.

Our resident vitamin expert is Mrs.D and she is very generous with her knowledge.

I hope you will find our community both supportive and friendly! :)

Hi Jean,

It's really nice to meet you, although I regret your reason for being here. There are a lot of members who suffer from fibromyalgia, either as a primary or a secondary condition, and that includes me. The worst thing about the illness is that no one really knows the mechanism by which it attacks the body. They're all still trying to figure it out.

Having talked with many people who suffer this illness, I find that there are some symptoms which are common to everyone, and other symptoms which seem to afflict people quite individually. One list of possible symptoms I found included 76 different ones. I have suffered from some of the ones you have mentioned, but not from all of them. To me, that's the scariest part. Not knowing what to expect next. But I try to stay current on the research, and learn what I can from others. We have a fibromyalgia forum here, where you can post questions and maybe help other with their problems.

I hope I see you around here again, and that you decide to become an active member. You sound intelligent and concise. Good luck to you with all of your problems, Jean. Best wishes to you.:)

Hello Trippsmom. Welcome to NeuroTalk from me as well. :)

Thanks for the welcome. Spent a lot of the day researching Lyrica again. Forums, message boards, opinion boards, and a more lengthy physician's pamphlet then what I'd read before. I've also recently developed peripheral edema (swollen feet and ankles - along with stabbing pains in them and all over ny body) and that along with the blurred vision and photophobia are suggested as reasons to stop the drug. Hate it for me as it really does relieve the Fibro pain and illness/flu-like feeling - both indescribable to the non-sufferer. The neuro Opthamologist in Nashville said it takes years to develop eye problems from a drug - Hmmmph - he should read the forums AND the lit on the subject.
Well, I'm off to find the Fibro forum. I'm isolated because of my eyes, geographic locale, and care for my 94-year-old Mother -- so I welcome emails. When my eyes get better I'll have "cuter" posts - LOL. Just doing this is difficult.
Thanks again,
Jean

Hello and welcome to Neurotalk - you will find many great people here!

If you need anything, please don't hesitate to ask - no question is too big or too small and I would be more than happy to help you in any way I can.

I am currently on Lyrica and I don't have any blurred vision, although blurred vision is listed as a possible side effect - the only side effect I have is weight gain. I hope you find the answers you need real soon

Thanks and i'm looking forward to seeing you around the forum soon!!

Alison:hug:
