A Petersfield man with Motor Neurone Disease (MND) is hitting all the right notes for charity.
Bryan Frost (66), of Dickens Lane, was diagnosed with MND in 2002 and is now unable to use his arms or legs – but one thing that was not affected was his singing.

The former singer decided to re-form his rock and roll band The Ravons and used his passion for music to raise thousands of pounds for the MND Association and The Rowans Hospice.

For all his hard work and determination, Mr Frost was awarded the recognition he deserved earlier this month at an awards ceremony held by our sister newspaper, The News. He scooped the Best Volunteer prize at their We Can Do It awards.

After receiving his award he said: “When I was being wheeled down to the stage I felt like I was on cloud nine. It felt like a dream.

“I knew I had been nominated but when all of the other nominees were read out I wasn’t sure I’d win. I thought the night was fantastic, I can’t believe I have won. The award will go in my living room.”

His gigs have included the Petersfield Social Club, which raised £1,200 for the MND Association, and he also performed at last year’s Petersfield Festivities.

He has also sold a CD at Woolworths in the High Street and raised £4,000 for the charity from the sales.

When Mr Frost became a day patient at the Rowans Hospice at Purbrook, Waterlooville, he was more determined than ever to raise funds for the worthwhile cause, so released another CD that has been on sale at Woolworths.

He said: “It (his fundraising) gives me a sense of purpose.

“We must help places like The Rowans because they do a lot for the community.”

His next gig will be at the Petersfield Festival Hall in June with all funds going to the Rowans Hospice and MND Association.

His CD ‘My Back Pages’ is now available to buy from the Post’s office at 33 High Street.

Although no price is given for the CD, Mr Frost has asked that people pay a minimum donation of £10, which will go straight to hospice funds.
