Tysabri Question

I am currently waiting for Biogen to notify me of an approved infusion center for my insurance (Tricare prime) They said it could take weeks to months???? Is this normal??

greta 02-25-2008 01:55 PM

isn't Portsmouth NMC an approved site? I would hazard a guess that it is since it's a hospital and my neuro has some patients on it. It shouldn't take that long to find an infusion center.

NaeNae 02-25-2008 06:02 PM

Not sure I don't see a neuro there but Tricare gave me a list of infusion centers but didn't tell me if they were on the TOUCH program, said I would have to call myself....there were 6 I called all of them, negatory on all! The Major in charge of the pharmacy here at Langley though has been on the phone with my docs office and Biogen and is seeing what they need to do to be able to do it here at Langley. When I informed Tricare that certainly I was not the only person in all of Hampton Roads on Tysabri that had tricare they were unimpressed...but I am the only one at Langley..thinking of going to the Peninsual meeting this month at Sentara to poll the audience so to speak!

Call the HR NMSS - I bet they can help you find an infusion center. You can also leave a message for Yasmin (MS Nurse) at the neurology clinic at Portsmouth - you shouldn't have to see a neuro there to get services like that there. She's been really good about calling me back by the end of the day or the next. Also, I'll talk to flygirl - I think she had a link for Touch approved infusion centers.

Cool thanks Greta ...duh I didn't even think to call the NMSS! BTW how are the moving plans coming along?

Gazelle 02-25-2008 08:27 PM

Flygurl does. :)

Cool that Tri-care covers Tysabri!

Greta, how are da little fishy packets?

I used to have a list but it is no longer up to date. Call Biogen and ask them, Renee. They have a list. If the person who answers the phone won't tell you, ask to speak to a supervisor. They HAVE to know who is TOUCH certified. It's their job to find you a location for infusions.

NMSS probably won't know either. They will most likely tell you to call Biogen - MSActiveSource.

Let me know if you need more help.

I will call Biogen today...althought they are the ones who sent me the letters saying they couldn't find a place and that it might take awhile! Also hoping to hear from the Major at Langley who said he would see what he could do to get certified!

Moving plans are .....moving along. Checking everything off the list, but still worried about bringing the monsters. We may make a trip over this spring just to get kennels and sitters and stuff settled. This is the only part of the move that's worrying me.

G-
Fish snacks are yummy. Nothing like a little anchovy and almond snack for breakfast! One of the ice teas was too nasty to drink.

YAY Biogen called today and gave me an infusion center in Norfolk that I can use until Langley does everything it needs to get certified.....that being said now waiting for neuros office to submit the apperwork to the Langley clinic to get my mediport installed!

Greta, are your dogs on your orders? That makes things so much smoother! Also if you work with whatever airline it is that ships your dogs they usually have prearranged kennels that they use that are chosen becuase of how they treat the animals...not to mention they make bank! LOL I am hoping all goes smoothly for you...My g/f has certainly told me horrible pet stories but I can honestly say we never had a minutes trouble travelling with ours!
