Alan's Pump just arrived.
 

Hi All!!

The courier just came with the box of Gamma and supplies. And it's almost 8 p.m.

This little thing is the pump??? I can only assume that the black pack thing must be something that goes on one’s waist or something??? See, I thought it would look like the pump that Alan had in the hospital. When the courier arrived, I said “where’s the pump?” and he said “All I have is this box”, so I made sure that there was a pump inside and the only thing that had the word GEMSTAR on it, is this little thing that is the size of my radio. There are no cords, and there are two batteries inside the box of supplies. I am not touching anything. I put the two bags of Gamma inside the fridge.

Oh, the lovely nurse Alan had on his 8th infusion just called me and we spoke in French. Ooh La La. She is coming tomorrow at around 1.p.m.

Along with the all supplies, they sent me a brand new Sharps-tainer. This big thing with a thing that snaps on top. Well, you would not believe how long it took me to figure out how to snap the stupid thing on.

I went on the internet and looked at Sharps Containers but they were all closed.

So I finally figured it out. Imagine if I went to medical school?? They would have laughed me out of the class.

Oh, and this is a good question, do you think I should tell the nurse what happened during the last infusion? I do not know if she knows the other nurse and I don't want to seem like a gossipy person. Think I should just say nothing?? She knows we received a pump because there was a problem with the last infusion but I did not go into detail.

What would you do??

Melody....your pump sort of looks like mine...
 

But mine has a 're-chargable' battery, not actual batteries...Did the case come with a sort of 'strap'? With snaps to attach to d-rings on that bag?
Actually the bag looks just like mine...and my bag isn't made for my machine specifially...I know it's not the same pump machine as yours tho...Mine came with a cord for recharging....only difference really.

It would probably be best just to say to this nurse that you had 'infusion problems' last time, not using the pump and 'OTHER problems'. Best not to elaborate, just let the nurse do her job. If you look at all the stuff in the box, there SHOULD be a set of instructions for the nurse along with the 'inventory' of all that was sent. Those instructions probably outline doctor orders at the rates/times/dosages to administer/give the IVIG to Alan. Make sure they are on top of the IG for her/him to not MISS SEEING.
The fussiest part of the infusion process [aside from getting the catheter in] will be in setting the pump for and at it's different rates.

As for the Sharps container...you keep it -nurse opens and closes it as needed till full. My home nursing service takes it when full and delivers another when needed. The tubing and other stuff, once empty I double bag and dispose as regular trash as there's nothing viably troublesome after it's used.

May Alan have a happy, uneventful...even boring infusion! Those really are the best ones. I know you will keep us up to date - j

Yeah, let's hope for a boring infusion.

Actually they told me to put my insulin syringes in the sharps container, and that's what I've been doing. The previous sharps container was much smaller and I kept the original box which allows me to bring it to the post office and they take it because it has a pre-paid thing on it.

Now this humongous thing, there is no box to mail it anywhere so I gather I will give it to the infusion company down the line. It will take some time to fill it up, it's really a big one.
