Aloha-Atypical Trigeminal Neuralgia

Is there anyone else on this site with this condition? I live in Hawaii and it's been challenging to say the least to find any Dr's here with real experience of this condition. They want to just throw meds at it, and I don't know if I can face the prospect of being in pain the rest of my life. Would appreciate anyone to talk to about this, I'm burning out my friends and family. Thanks

Hi. Hon.

I don't know if I even got a taste of what you are going through but I'll share my two experiences. 15 years ago, I got Bells Palsy and the pain in the right side of my face drove me crazy. The doctor told me the trigeminal nerves on the left side of my face were inflamed. I took anti-inflammatories and in two weeks my bells palsy went away , but I never forgot that pain.

Then last month I had a TMJ flare up that made me see both my primary care physician and my dentist who explained that the nerves (on the other side of my face) were all inflamed and they gave me EVERYTHING, including vicodin. I never took it. I just iced it. I had 5 days of hell.

I really don't know what to say to you. Is there no specialist at all where you reside?

I am so sorry you are going through this.

Like I said. I only got a taste of that pain but it was enough to have me in bed for the 5 days.

Go to google and read everything you can read on how to help this disorder and what you need to do for yourself to try and alleviate the pain.

I certainly wish you well my dear.

Take care

Melody
