In GA, filed first appeal 9-24-13 for SFN

Hello everyone,

I have small fiber neuropathy which was finally diagnosed on 9-19 so I was able to send that skin punch biopsy in with my appeal. On a scale of 0 to 15, 15 being the best, both my biopsy's were 0. No never fibers in my feet. Dr said nothing could be done to regenerate my nerves.....he can only work with a 4 to a 7 :( and that I needed a pain mgmt. specialist. Went to one and I liked him BUT his bldg./office was very, very dirty. So I'm in the process of getting an appointment with another specialist that an RN gave me the name of. She worked for him at one time.

I'm 51 and have worked since I was 15.....I was laid off in Sept of 2012 after 26 years....I loved my job but was excited to think I had the whole world open and since I had 7.5 months of severance I could take my time finding the perfect job.

Well......you know where that thinking gets you...lol....God had other plans. A rare uterine cancer called Serous....yep...serious without the I.......already had diabetes (not insulin dependent) and then 6 rounds of chemo (taxol/carbo). Had a few minor symptoms of neuropathy during chemo but it didn't become disabling until 4 weeks after chemo ended in Mar this year.

Went from being a very active mom of 2 and a Grammy of 6 and then BAM....I'm at home 99% of the time. I am unable to walk for very long or even sit unless I have my feet elevated. No more driving, grocery shopping or just going to WalMart which sucks...lol

My appeal included numerous dr's visits (PCP, Onocologist, Neurologist and Foot and Ankle dr) since my original application and letters from family and prior co-workers.

Anyone been approved with similar circumstances ? Any comments or suggestions would be much appreciated.

I would love to go back to work but it ain't gonna happen.....I'm guessing I was making triple when I worked to what I'll draw from SSDI.

Thanks for reading ! I'm a very chatty person (which I'm sure you noticed)

I would say your chances are pretty good due to your age. Hope all of your medical documentation is up to par.

Are you appealing on the Reconsideration, ALJ or Federal level?

Are you represented by an atty?

GOOD LUCK!

Hey Mz.....it's a reconsideration.....

Hello Mz.....it's actually the reconsideration.....I worked with a local advocate when filing this reconsideration. He said if this was not approved it could take up to 2 years to get a video hearing. My unemployment runs out around the 1st or 2nd week of Jan so I would really like to get approved. I also took enough out of 401K to pay my house off and if I can get approved I won't have to pay the 10% penalty :) Then I could use that to pay off my medical bills.

My initial application was reviewed in AL......this one will actually go to Stone Mountain. Never in my wildest dreams did I think my life would turn out like this. Getting approved would just be such a relief and allow me to concentrate on getting to a new normal for me.

Thanks so much !
