Nerve Damage & Arthritis (Feet)

My right foot is the last place on body to develop OA, left foot getting Stiff now too. My right side of body is where I had hip replacement in 2010 and everything has advanced downhill re: OA.

Lately, my right foot is waking me at night with a "burning" and I'm thinking could the OA develop neuropathy. Here is a informative link and mention is made of "nighttime burning"...which is what I am experiencing.

I will get up and walk and shake out foot and then rub one of my many remedies on foot and work to get back to sleep.

Reading about Eumaid and wow how expensive!~~~ That may keep me from trying it. I do pretty OK with Topricin, Ultra TigerBalm, Comfrey Ointment, DMSO mixed with magnesium and some essential oils....will Eumaid be a great helper? So many to work with. And try.

I would be cautious about self-medication with DMSO.

It is approved for treating symptoms of painful bladder syndrome.

There is no evidence that it is any better than placebo in management of osteoarthritic pain. Self-medication with DMSO can have adverse health outcomes.

There is more on this here DMSO: Uses and Risks.

kiwi, I know you've reminded me about DMSO for some time and I've been using it for many years, dilute it with water first then add mag oil to the bottle.
I have NO issues with DMSO. Thanks though for your continued risk comments. C

PS: I was hoping for a comment about OA and feet and neuropathy. It would be nice to hear from others.

Sometimes; especially in the late evening because of neuropathy, my feet/ankles burning helps when I very lightly rub them with Rubbing Alcohol. Gives a nice cooling sensation. That seems to calm them down a bit. I do not have OA; but do have some painful arthritis in my fingers and toes.

This burning comes on at sleep time, and I often will get up and rub my feet with Vicks salve and I'll do the rubbing alcohol too as an alternate. I have so many rubs/ointments on the stand next to bed.

You say you don't have OA but arthritis in fingers and toes...that's OA as I understand it unless you are challenged with RA. thanks..

I guess that is OA; it's probably the RA I was thinking of. I did have an MRI done last year of both hips which dose not show arthritis; but it is my fingers, along with wrist/feet/toes.

Personally, because of my neuropathy too, I would not tend to use anything like Vicks or any of those that go on hot/warm/gel; especially after or before using Rubbing Alcohol; which is more a cooling effect. Goes on cool and remains cooling effect.

I will sometimes use Mineral Ice I buy from Walgreens on my wrists/fingers, but not on my feet/ankles because of aggravating the Neuropathy in those areas which is already frequently burning.

By alternating I mean, maybe alcohol one night and Vicks another night and see what difference I may feel. Vicks feels good on my feet, I wear socks to bed and during day, I think I've posted about Vicks here somewhere. C

I've mentioned here too about a friend with neuropathy who since started using grape seed ex is improved, is off gabapentin .. her nerve damage is from statins.
