Bryanna please help me in anyway you can I'm so ill
Bryanna please help me if you can I really am so ill right now and it started nearly 3 years ago now...
Here is my story, I'll try and keep it short but that will be difficult...in 2008 my dentist referred me to a hospital dental clinic as I was very anxious regarding dentists. I had a temporary tooth next to my front top tooth that needed proper treatment. The dentist at the hospital suggested I have a proper crown fitted and the tooth next to that was best to be removed and a crown fitted. Various other denal procedures were done whist under sedation. The dental work was finished early 2009. Throughout this time I began to have abscesses that required continous antibiotics but they would not go away and one of the crowns kept falling out so in 2010 my dentist referred me back to the dental hospital. By 2010 I started to feel strangely unwell, joint and muscle pains everywhere, sweats, fatigued, dizziness so much so I was really struggling to work. The dentist removed a few more teeth, still the pain and abscesses persisted so I was sent to a maxilla facial clinic where they removed another tooth but still I was in so much pain, in the end they said it was neuralgia ad prescribed amitriptyline. But again the abscess and pain was still there so the dentist looked once again in my mouth and next thing he calls another 2 dentists in, he wanted confirmation tat what he ad seen was indeed a dental fistula , they both confirmed this so I was sent to another hospital for a x ray. Te following day the hospital dentist asked me to go to see him that day. This s what he said... I'm so sorry, 2 years ago I should have sent you or a x ray when you were first referred here but I assumed there was no need to. Firstly, we have found that there has been a dental instrument left in the very top of your root canal and secondly tree has been no root canal treatment ever done on thie root canal of this tooth. I assumed you had previously had root canal treatment done previously before being referred to me. You also have a fistula tats why I decided to send you or this x ray, I'm so sorry. He seemed in a panic I was in shock and didn't really understand, all I knew was I felt so ill and weak, I just wanted the instrument out. He tod me this might prove difficult and old need an operation also if implants were required my face could collapse. I didn't know what to think, shock I guess. ASAP he said his friend a edodontist and him could try to get the instrument out, before attempting a operation. So tat took place, they managed to remoe it whilst I was again under sedation. When I awoke he said they had been successful in removing it I asked what it was and could I have it he said they didn't know and lost it as it went up the dental Hoover. I never questioned it as I was still heavily sedated and felt so unwell I wanted to go home. I went back to him and he replaced it again properly but again it fell out. When I went back to see him he had left and a lady dentist took over from him. I was to be sedated again so they could fit the crown properly but they could not get a vein, so another 3 appointments were attended for the sedation but again no veins. By this time I was in so much pain throughout my body and one day I could not get out of bed, 6 weeks I was bed bound for and was unable to even get myself out of bed. I was then diagnosed with CFS, I now have heart arrhythmia and fibromyalgia. That was 2 years ago. Still I can see the fistula, I still have the temp crown in and I can still taste the fluid from what seems like the ongoing infection. I now feel I have sinus problems and feel that's actually always been there. I don't know what to do, I feel so scared and so ill. Please Bryanna any advise given would really be very much appreciated. Kind Regards Jen |
Hi Jen,
I am so sorry you are having all of these problems. It does not benefit you to hold on to any teeth that are infected. There is no procedure that can cure an infected tooth. Root canals do not cure the infection because there is no access to the microscopic canals called dentin tubules. So the nerve material inside of these canals festers with bacteria until the tooth is removed. An abscess at or near a tooth generally means that the tooth and/or the bone is infected. Your dentist has not informed you honestly about the the bacteria that resides inside of root canaled teeth. The instrument that you speak of that was left in your bone was part of a edondontic instrument called a reamer or endo file. This incident is not all that uncommon. However, until the patient complains or the area swells up the dentist will not admit that it's there for fear of admitting guilt for leaving it there or for fear of ticking off his peer who performed the procedure. Even when the patient complains of no symptoms but the instrument is seen on an x-ray.... the patient is rarely told about it. Based on what you've written here, your dentists have not been completely upfront with you on several occasions about your dental health and dental work. In general, how is your dental health? Has any of these dentists talked to you about removing your bad teeth and replacing them? Or are they just patching you up as things occur? Bryanna Quote:

Bryanna my updated reply from Jen
Thank you so much Bryanna for your reply I so very much appreciate it.
This is what happened firstly a few years ago, the tooth next to my front tooth broke and I was due to go to a wedding the next day so a emergency private dentist put a temporary crown in and said I had to go back to my own dentist and have proper dental work done. I was sent to a specialised dental consultant that provided sedation with dental procedures as I was full of anxiety so sedation was carried out and he performed many dental procedures one of which was to provide a dental crown and metal post to replace the temporary crown I had already in. This was carried out under sedation. For over a year after this dental procedure I kept having continous recurring abscesses and I was provided all different types of antibiotics over the year but still nothing worked. I was advised to go back to the dentist who specialised in sedation and who fitted he crown. He removed more teeth, still in pain and abscesses returned so he referred me to a maxilla facial clinic they removed another tooth, still had more pain and they diagnosed neuralgia. But even after this I could still taste the same horrible taste and I was still in pain so once again I went back to the dentist that provided the initial work and sedation. It was then he said I don't understand what's wrong.mi will look again and it was then he saw a fistula on my gum above the tooth where had fitted the metal crown and post. He asked another two dentist to look at my gum and they confirmed it was a fistula. He immediately sent me fora x ray at another hospital, he called me the next day and said he needed to see me that day. It was at this appointment he said he was so sorry, he should have sent me 2 years ago when I had my first initial visit with him for a X-ray but he didn't. He said he assumed on my first initial visit that I had already had root canal treatment done. However the X-ray showed I didn't have any root canal treatment on this tooth at all and he performed the fitting of the dental crown and post without knowing there had been no root canal treatment done ever on this tooth. Not only that here was a dental metal implement lodge high up in the root canal. Bryanna I have the x rays and I've been told it looks more like a part of a per formed post. I can add the x rays if that's ok for you to have a look at? For over a year I had a crown fitted with a metal post which had no previous root canal treatment and not only that a metal object had been left in which was above the metal crown post that was holding the crown he fitted in. That's why I had a constant infection. When he showed me the x ray and informed me of this he also said if I felt I wanted implants in the future my face would collapse?? Imagine the shock I was in but I just wanted this removed. He said he was unsure he could remove it without a epictomey but even that might not be successful because it was lodged so far up in the root canal. This is why the fistula had formed. Eventually he asked another specialised dentist if he could help him try to remove it whilst I was under sedation, they managed to get it but said they lost it up the dental Hoover when I asked what it was that was lodged in my root canal. Since then that was in 2010 I have been so unwell and haven't been able to work since. I now have a systemic disease called chronic fatigue syndrome, neuralgia, fibromyalgia and it has also affected my heart. I feel so ill all f the time. The crown he fitted fell out and he fitted a temp one, then he left his practice so after two years I still ave this ill fitted temp crown, I can still taste a infection and I also feel I ave a sinus infection. I really am so unwell and desperately need proper dental care and advice. Thanks Quote:

Thank you so much for your reply, it s so much appreciated. I did write another reply to you but for some reason it did to post. I have the x rays and can send them to you? I have been told it is a pre formed metal post that was left in the root canal previously. But I'm unsure as to what it is, I'm sure you would know as soon as you saw it. It has taken me a long time to receive a copy of the digital copy of the x ray with the foreign object in my root canal. They said they have a hard copy but it will take time to find it, the digital copy you can see the object but underneath that it seems to have been erased or blocked in some way so you cannot see the whole of the x ray and what is actually underneath the Brecht. You can also see there was never any root treatment done on the tooth either but yet he fitted a crown and post whilst I was under sedation and the foreign metal object seems to have been pushed up far into the root canal by the metal post he fitted, all done without any root canal treatment. My dental health nw is so poor just like my health. The crown and post he fitted full out continuously and when I went in again to see him in 2010 he no longer worked at the practice. Another lady dentist attempted to fit the new crown under sedation but three attempts and appointments later they still could to locate a vein so the work has never been fixed. So I have the ill fitting crown still in place , I also can still taste a horrible infection taste and I feel. Have a sinus infection since all of his happened but since my body has became so unwell with a systemic disease called chronic fatigue syndrome I hav been mostly bed bound, only recently have I found the energy to deal with this. I really am so unwell Bryanna and I really need dental advise and care. Do think a look at the x ray could give you a much better understanding. It was in 2009 they noticed the gum fistula and sent me to another hospital for the dental x ray which did find the metal object in my root canal. the fistula is still there. He told me when they found all of this out in 2009 that if a implant was to be considered my face would collapse. This really scared me but the more I think about it the more I want to know more by what he actually meant by that. Would that mean if the actual roots of the tooth were to be takn out my face would collapse? Any advice given Bryanna would so be very much appreciated, I am so worried and scared. Thanks Jen |
Jen,
Yes, please post the xrays. I understand the story that you are telling. No need to repeat it again, that's okay :) The tooth is badly infected and the fistula means that the infection is now in the bone. The sinus problems that you are having may be coming from this and/or some other tooth. I assume that you have not had regular dental care due to fear of the dentists? That's okay..... many people have that fear, I understand. What do you want to happen? This tooth should be removed. It doesn't sound like you will be a good candidate for a dental implant. The fact that the dentist explained to you that the bone would collapse when they upper tooth is removed .....indicates that he knew how infected this tooth was when he said that. The bone in the upper front of the mouth is more fragile and thinner than the bone any place else in the mouth. When an upper front tooth is badly infected, the bone deteriorates in that area rather quickly. When the tooth is removed, some of that bone will be removed also. This will cause that area of bone to be gone and it is not easily replaceable. If you did not remove this tooth... the bone will deteriorate further along the jaw from the infection. Your replacement options depend on what other healthy teeth you have remaining in your mouth. Do you have x-rays of all of your teeth? If so, feel free to post them. Bryanna Quote:

Hello Jenmaca
I read your post and I just wanted to offer my support to you. I am so sorry your dentists didn't really level with you. I don't know the things Bryanna does, but I trust what she is saying 100%. Maybe get any of the suspect teeth removed. I think I would rather gum my food, that go through what you have had to experience. I have had my RC teeth removed, as I have an auto immune condition. I didn't want to feel sick all the time. Best thing I could have done. I sure hope this resolves soon for you. Get well. ginnie:hug:

Hi Bryanna,
Thanks once again for your help. I have attached one of the x rays the only one i have that shows the dental instrument. I had difficulty attaching it to the post and its not very clear. You can see the instrument but for some reason on the x ray there is a white blank over the tooth, why that is i don't know. I received it like this from the dental hospital. This was taken in 2010. You asked me what i would like to happen next. I would like the infection gone but if they remove the remaininder of the root of the tooth that is left does that mean my face will collapse? Im really so scared. What other options do I have left? what should i do next? Thanks Jen Quote:

Thank you so much for your kind words x I do want the remainder of the tooth gone and the infection to go, but im scared to have it removed incase my face collapses as the dentist used those words to me. I have no clue as to what the damage now is to my bone structure and if indeed this might be the case if it is totally removed. I just want to feel well again. I was wondering how I find out what damage has been done to my bone structure and who do i go to to find out the extent of what is really going on. I hope you also will get better since you too have a auto immune disease, gentle hugs Gennie x |

Hello Jenmca
I have never heard of face collapse with having a root of a tooth taken out. I know there are all kinds of bone graphs that can be used. I hope Bryanna will address your concerns over this. Having that tooth out, will get rid of the infection. You don't want to be sick over this like you have been.
Oral surgeons, work. Also there is a kind of doctor that works with the face and jaw. Forgot what kind of doc. they are called. Bryanna would be the one who would know what kind of special doctor you may need. I am sorry you are going through all this too. I still can't believe they left part of that tool in your tooth. A bit careless I would say, as usually there are xrays taken after a proceedure to check on what they did. Be good to yourself. ginnie:hug: |
