I'm getting a new shower! yay!

I just called the company that's going to help me get a new shower in my bathroom. (called an interior decorator because I'm clueless on what I'll need, plus I need help with colors)

I'm taking out the fiberglass shower insert. It's been nice, but it doesnt have grab bars. I'm not so sure I want to drill thru the fiberglass to put up grab bars. (just dont trust that they'd get them attached to the stud right, plus I think the fiberglass insert would look ugly with grab bars.)

I want to put in tile that goes floor to ceiling, including the ceiling. (remembering an old shower at another house where I had pieces of drywalled ceiling falling on me while I was washing my hair) I also want plenty of grab bars and a floor that's not smooth like what I have now. I want it to match the rest of the bathroom because I dont want to change anything else in the room.

It's a basement bathroom, and I might not be able to make it totally handicap accessible, so I'm aiming for at least handicap "friendly". (and I want everything to code)

Then the rest of the house needs paint and new carpet, and I suck at picking out neutral colors. (is dark gray a neutral? That's usually what my eyes go for) So, the decorator will come in handy for helping me figure that out because I dont want people to giggle about our lack of ability to color coordinate.

My dad said that if he likes what I pick out for my bedroom, that he'll probably use the same paint color and carpet in the rest of the house.

I probably watch too much HGTV.

I'm all excited. Now I have to decide what kind of tile to use. I dont know if I want ceramic or something a little nicer. Maybe I'll go with a nicer ceramic.

I think I'm going to have fun figuring out what tile layout to do. Subway tile (rectangle shape) or if I want normal square shape tile. I'm leaning towards subway tile.

My dad wants me to add an accent tile. So, I might let him help pick the accent tile since he wants me to add an accent.

I just dont want my bathroom to look like my parents bathroom. They had it redone about five years ago. They took out this people trap of a jacuzzi tub and put a huge shower in it's place. Supposedly it was handicap accessible. I can tell you now that I know what's involved in a handicap shower, that it's not a handicap shower. (Who puts a step-up in a handicap shower? and the tiniest possible tiles on the wall and floor with hundreds of feet of grout that needs to be cleaned? handicap people arent going to crawl around on the floor to clean grout)

Their shower works, it just doesnt look very impressive for what they paid for it. (I'm starting to wonder if they ever got permits too) I'd love to redo their shower and bathroom too, but I think repainting and carpeting the house will take up the shower money for their bathroom.

We must have pictures, of course..:D

Dont worry, I'll be taking before and after pictures. I'm weird like that. I did that with my desk I had built last winter. Heck, I took in-progress pictures!

My dad just told me that we're converting the room that was his office into a "library". Basically a place for him to put his leather bound Louis L'amour books in. And he told me that I could keep my crochet/knitting stuff and my sewing machine in the room too.

Squee! A place for my crafty stuff! He's putting a futon (and a tv with cable) in there so it can also be used as a guest room if we have visitors.

We just have to get my cousin to come get her dad's desk. (my uncle died 15yrs ago. My aunt gave my dad his desk. We dont have room for it now, and luckily, my cousin wants it. It stays in the family...yay!!)

I cant wait to get carpeting and paint. I miss my dog, but 5yrs of him on white carpet and the carpeting isnt white anymore. Especially in my bedroom, which was his bedroom too. (he slept on the floor) The builders also apparently never put primer on the walls (inside and out) before they painted, and we have bubbling paint on the outside of the house, and paint that comes off like chalk on a chalkboard inside the house.

I'm all excited. I really do watch too much HGTV, but I absolutely LOVE stuff like this.

We're also going to turn my mom's old shower stall (fiberglass insert like mine, but was shut off back in 2005 and not usable) into a towel cabinet. Cutting out her old fiberglass shower while they're here removing mine, and then we'll remove the old shower pipes and drywall the walls and put up wood shelves so my mom has a place to keep her hamper for dirty clothes and shelves for clean towels and toilet paper.

Hopefully the MS leaves me alone while we get this stuff done. I think that's the only thing that would ruin the fun of remodeling. The MS trolls in my head had better behave.

are you hiring sally's hunks to do it? we liked that.

I love subway tiles. small and pretty colors! Yes, grey is a neutral color, but most folks who want nuetral go for a vanilla look with touches of other colors added or sprinkled in for effect. Think beige, vanilla, cream, sand. If you go with grey, you can chose lighter blues, greys, and even throw in tinges of things like lavender, or misty pinks.

Im so excited for you!
