Neuropathy from a wasp sting?
 

Hello everyone, a little over 2 months ago i was stung by a red wasp. I had a delayed reaction to the sting where i didn't feel any symptoms for 1 week. Then i had a large local reaction around where the sting was, it was localized maybe 3 inches across. The itching that i felt lasted for almost 2 weeks. Now the itching is completely gone but I have nerve damage in my arm. I haven't been officially diagnosed with nerve conduction studies but i have the symptoms. My arm feels sort of weak and it can ache throughout the day. Also i was stung in the upper part of my arm and i feel soreness in my forearm as well. I also experience symptoms such as "pins and needles" , some sharp pains, and itching even though my sting has fully healed. I am wondering if this will go away or if it will be permanent? I eat very healthy and avoid sugars, low salt diet with fruits, vegetables, lean meats. However i still feel the symptoms throughout the day my arm just feels sore. The doctors said i should take prednisone and see if this helps speed recovery. I know it has all sorts of side effects so I'm sort of delaying it for now. I'm afraid my arm wont come back from this though. I have been quoted as to wait 3 months if its nerve damage to heal but I'm worried that it wont. Any help or advice is appreciated. Its affecting my daily life otherwise i wouldn't be on these forums. Thank you!

OP: I did a bit of searching on Homeopathy and Stings and got a lot of info....You could do the same...Amazing how homeopathy works... I use it for several issues in my life.

Hi Jo'mar thank you for the link. I read the article and it has me concerned. The longest time that someone recovered in the studies was 2 months and for me it has already been 2 months and I'm still experiencing symptoms like muscle twitching, sore muscles, itch, and pins and needles. My arm looks completely healed you can't even tell that there was a sting apart from a white spot if you look very closely with good lighting. I'm wondering if the sting caused some sort of damage and now I'm stuck with this. All of my symptoms point to neuropathy and not related to venom or the sting at this point.

OP: Well it could be that what is left from the sting is neuropathy in which case you need to start working with B vitamins and other things mentioned in the PN group. I go with my gut feeling on so much I deal with and you say no sign of a sting etc...

As far as seeing doctors, I know many people run to them for answers and in my life they have failed me a lot... So I do all I can to be my own doctor and seek out ALL the great info on health forums.

Other's experiences on issues are Gold...

I think 2 months was for bee sting.. so wasp could take longer.. I would try some massage, heat, cold, maybe some acupressure, just to see if it helps.

Hi, I just wanted to give an update. I still have the neuropathy in my right arm. I'm getting an EMG tomorrow and will update on what it shoes. My arm still feels sore and now I have symptoms in my hand as well like burning, prickling, itching. Its awful. When I walk for 30 minutes my arm cramps and hurts. All of this from a single sting from a wasp. They should be taken seriously. I know that I will always spray around the house every summer with full protection and be very careful when going outside.

New update. Went for an Emg of bilateral upper extremities. It showed nothing and that my nerves were completely normal. I'm regretting getting an EMG now because i have pain in my left arm that was completely fine before the test. My right arm still hurts and have nephropathy symptoms like sharp pains, pins and needles, and soreness. It feels like it won't go away now i have some sort of damage. I don't have any insurance and don't want to pay for any more tests out of pocket. Ideally an MRI would be helpful but its so expensive. I'm terrified i might be stuck in an endless cycle of chronic pain and pain pills at this point.
