shunt scan
 

I made a recent trip to a neurosurgeon some four hours from my home. He did a complete workup and could find no problems with the placement of the shunt. He now wants me to travel back there for a nuclear medicine shunt scan. I have received some preliminary information from a friend but I'm still not sure what's all involved in a shunt scan. My information tells me that a radiologist injects radioactive dye up from the distal end of the shunt. My questions are: A) is the procedure dangerous? B) Can I wear anything during the test (I have been assaulted by a former spouse, so I'm a little edgy about being alone naked in a room with a radiologist, who most likely will be female) and C) is this test really worth a four-hour $300 limousine ride? I live in Kirkland Lake and the test would be in Sudbury. Buses and Trains are unreliable and not much cheaper. I've been having trouble with headaches and vision. Neuro says he can go in and flush the shunt if there is debris. How dangerous is that? And what kind of debris could enter the shunt and from where? Any help would be appreciated.
