I caught the H1N1

I went back to my regular MD yesterday. I complained about this awful, horrible, no good cold, bug I have had. he did that test thing, and said i was positive for H1N1. I said No way! He said there are a ton of false positives, but it sounds to him like that is exactly what I had.

btw the test is a swab stuck WAY up your nose, and they swap your sinus cavity. IT HURT! and then he stuck the qtip in a clicker thing for a couple of mins.

I was not throwing up. I had a fever of 102 or so for a couple of days, and then it hovered around 100 or so for a few days. I am coughing, hacking, and am snotty. I have been quite nauseous, but have not upchucked. He said alot of folks dont vomit with this flu, its about hacking, coughing, and fevers. It has taken me greater than 10 days to feel better. :)

I didnt feel great, but I never suspected that I was in the same catagory as those who have been paraded on the news. The MD told me that most who catch it will think they have a very bad cold, or mild flu. in most cases its not as drastic as the regular flu unless you are immune compromised, or asthmatic since it affects the lungs. No wonder I have been trying to cough up a lung! :(

I told him I wasnt taking that flu shot, and he said there was no need now, as I have a natural immuity since catching the flu itself. I am wondering how I got this fella. It must have been in the grocery store. I go to a college town to shop, and its been full of young kids just getting started in college dorms around here.

Well, that explains alot doesnt it.

Wow, that sounds pretty bad anyway! I hope you'll feel better soon! I'm definitely getting the shot, I get very whiney and feel sorry for myself if I get nauseous for more than an hour or so. And I hate having a cough too.

I read somewhere, maybe on the the newsbot feed, that it remains contagious for as long as the cough lasts.

I'm glad you're recovering and I envy you your new found immunity. We're terrified of H1N1 going through our house of genetic hardluck cases.

We are getting the shot too! I need to call them today. Hope you feel better soon!

My doctor told me last month to not worry about what kind of flu I had. He said swine flu wasn't as nasty as the regular guys. It did take a little longer to go away than usual. Since he's known me for 10 years (and my MS), I get anything the threatens the lungs, we attack with mega antibiotics! No taking chances with pneumonia.

A co-worker got knocked out of commission for a week last week. His doc told him the same thing - don't worry about type of flu.

I hope you feel better soon. Does your doctor think you caught it just out shopping?!?!?!?

My personal opinion of the news has been that it's been hyped, so it's a bit closer to home to hear that you tested positive for it. I hope you can find some comfort while you're experiencing this. Ken
