Is it ok to keep the vitamins and other supplements in the fridge???
 
I don't kn ow if this is a stupid question but i have it. I was told by some guy at the supplement store that i should keep them in the fridge. Eversince, i have stored them there. Is that ok or should i not do that??

SOME yes ... like many probiotics and oils should be ... read the label if it says cool dry place NO

Hi Monica,
I asked a similar question a while back. I'll post the link to that thread below. It might be helpful. We all live in different locations and for some of us the temperature is often above the recommended shelf temperature. Also from what I can see it's the relative humidity that can be the major problem with storing a lot of supplements. Certainly is for me.

And so is Sharky.

Things that oxidize quickly...should be in the frig. Oils, are in that category.
Probiotics are "alive" and keep longer refrigerated too. (quality ones that is).
Magnesium supplements are very unstable in humid conditions. Magnesium draws water to itself.

Most regular vitamins are stable at room temp. If that goes above 85 degrees F...then cooler is better. Light also is a problem, so cool dark, low humidity is the ideal. Vit C is light unstable. Normally with a regular supply bottle of most vitamins environmental damage is unlikely. If you buy ahead, several, to save money, you have to think about storage more carefully.

Also check your expiration dates, and don't use any discolored, falling apart items.

I am not sure if this is correct or mentioned but I keep my fish oil pills in the fridge.The doc told me too to keep them better

Thank you everybody, i just have a little question. I understand magnesium should not be kept in the fridge because tehre can be some humidity, but what about Methyl b12 and other vitamins?. I bought many of them because i went to the states and bought the ones i could not get here, so i basically have enough vitamins for a year. The low temperature in the fridge wouldn't harm them?? Thank you

Unless otherwise specified, keeping them in a cool (just not near heat) dark place should be okay (but not necessarily the fridge -- not always okay). It will usually say on the bottle but if you're in doubt, call the company or look at the manufacturer's website. All my oils (Evening Primrose, fish, flax, etc.) are stored in the fridge and it does say that on the bottle as well.
