dragon, flash lights, and kite....

when the kids were here. We took them to a friend's house. They have an area in their garden where it's lower leveled and shrubs and a few trees growing inside of it. It is tiered up with wood blocks and has a mystique about it.

The kids asked me what was down there and I told them there was this big ole dragon living underground and that the owner of the house is "magic" as J would say. He put a spell to the dragon and sealed it in the dungeon.

Both of them were excited and scared and joyous and frightened all at once. One wanted to climb down to see the dragon but wanted the other one to come alone. But the other one wouldn't but wanted the other one to go. But one won't go without the other but neither would budge and the intrigue was killing them....

I stood there with a big smile on my face and all of a sudden, I realized one of the reasons that I was smiling was because it revived me of when I was a child and I was fascinated by the mysterious of the dragons...

but it just isn't the dragons but all myths including Santa Claus and Paul Bunyon; Zeus and Odin and all that's inbetween...

but somewhere along growing up. I lost faith in the mysteries when I started to discover the truth...

Why do we have to KNOW and/or UNDERSTAND things?? Why do we have to find out the TRUTHs???

that's when it became dark...responsibilities came where I knew that I had to be my own Santa Claus and that the thunder was not shot from Zeus...

in understanding life, I lost faith...

but in teaching kids myth, I've renewed my own...I hope and pray that they never lose that innocence...that there will be always some sort of mystique in their lives to keep them interested and happy and scared and joyous and frightened but always bright eyed....

I wish that for me...and for all of us...

~~~~~~~~~~~~
In the darkest of nights...if we build the most powerful of flashlights that can send the beam to travel a long long time.... and we shine it right up the sky....
where would it go??
the universe is vast and dark but I always thought that the light would return right back to where it started...
because as the earth is round, the universe is round as well, to me...
and I wonder about the power of the light...beaming through the darkness of the universe...and returning back to its origin...
and I hope for all of us that are seeing nothing but the darkness now, to stay until the light returns...because it DOES travel in LIGHT Speed....
please keep holding on to that flashlight...
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

what is it about when the kite start to fly and the string is leaving your hands...yet, you still have control over it...

what is it about when it starts to glide into the sky and your heart start to soar with it...

what is it about whenever you feel like you're about to lose it yet you still have the string in your hand and as the wind waves the kite up and down that sends your heart soaring up and down with it...

what is it about having the control yet not really having the control over it...

what is it about when we would lose a kite to the ocean or having it stuck on a tree and getting sad when it's ours but if we see a kite on a tree that's someone else's that would make us smile?

Is it because we know exactly how they felt and that makes us feel like we're all human...

is it because we know how hard it was to fly that kite and to try to control it only to lose it yet it is just another lesson learned??

and in the end...there is something about the kite itself....

just thinking about flying it is enough to bring a smile to all of us...especially when we get to pass it along to the next generation or two...

and what is it when we finally learn how to fly it...when that kite is flying smoothly in the air up in the sky and we're down on the ground looking up and puppeteering it and smiling big because we've finally learned HOW....

that the kite is the dragon to our youth and that it'll beam forever in our hearts...

When I was a little girl and the storms and thunder came, I'd jump in my dad's lap shivering. He told me it was God with a potato wagon and potatoes were falling out and tumbling around the floor of heaven. Then I would feel better. :rolleyes: :D

I saw a kite flying as we were leaving the Denver zoo. It brought a smile to my face and joy to my heart and a reminder to never stop smiling at and being joyful at the little things in life (like when I was cleaning out my jewelry box recently and found all my son's (who is 20) baby teeth and a blank coupon book for things he would do for me that he made me (I've never used them) but I've reminded him several times about them. Even writing about these things make me smile:)

Dear Moi,
I was reminded of something reading your words about the kite SO I went to find it...

The Kite is the Victim - Leonard Cohen

I reckon we need a sub-forum to dissect just this one piece of amazing poetry. ;)

Quote:

A kite is a contract of glory
that must be made with the sun,
so you make friends with the field
the river and the wind,
then you pray the whole cold night before,
under the travelling cordless moon,
to make you worthy and lyric and pure.

Jung and mythology eh? ;)

Moose is digging it big guy.

I had new dog tags made with my sons' name on it. *Because they are who I fight for now.

Children and that renewal of life. The imagination and why it's good to not know all the answers sometimes.

I still love Tasmin Archer's "Sleeping Satellite" song as the best interpretation of how we traded warm myth, magic and mystery for cold facts and calculating science.

But that's just me. :)

I am the MonSter that MS fears.
