why does Epilepsy get worse?
 

Ok, never put 2 and 2 together, i knew things were getting bad over the past 6 months even the past 3 months, been told they suspect E . I know i keep asking very silly questions and i'm sorry, you see i always knew i something wasnt right , rare dream like feelings colours , blobs, out of body feeling that i always put down to stress due to my balance issue's, and definatly thought this mostly happend around menses, ok today i had lunch with my family a few drinks and BANG! 3 times in 4 hours, i'm sinking into myself. what tha?
do any of you feel your sinking into your self kinda like a dream, you can hear everything and can respond a bit but it makes you feel crazy?
why DOSE E GET WORSE IS THIS NORMAL, ive gone from almost normal to my family saying oops you just whent away for a while . what ever is is it's progressing.

Hi Jen,
If you had any alcoholic drinks with your family right there is where to stop. Don't ever drink and take AED's it can be very dangerous!!
In regards to the feeling that you had it sounds like what happens to me when I have a cp sz. I hear and see everything going on around me and I'm totally conscious but I'm unable to speak this is often how my cp sz. start.
My epi told me that cp sz. are the hardest to control and if a persons sz. isn't under control within some time it can lead to grand mal sz. for some people. This is what happened to me last Sept. but I found out a lot of it was do to stress and after my epi increased my mysoline level I haven't had any more grand mal sz. thank goodness. Sue is right on. Drinking and AEDs do not mix! You're not getting worse; you just need to exercise some responsibility. Please stay away from alcohol, and I think you'll see better control of your E.

I'm going to agree with the above two posts, alcohol and seizures don't mix. Alcohol is a known trigger for seizures, and it also can cause very bad reactions when mixed with AED's.

I was never much of a drinker, but prior to my diagnosis and taking AED's when I did have a few drinks I'd end up blacking out (and I don't drink much, maybe 1-2, no hard drinks, shots, etc.). I had 3 drinks the year before last for my boyfriends birthday and blacked out hitting my shoulder and head in a bathroom. Needless to say, I won't even sniff a drink now. :)

Hi every one , i'm not on anything yet i havent even had my eeg yet, this is whats frieghtening me, sorry, this is all new to me , but my family has only just told me that its happening and how often, you see we didnt know why i had so many different things walking like ataxia symptoms for years now. my daughter just told me over lunch that she thinks now everybody knows that it might be seizures because they are JUST NOW noticing when it happens where as before they thought i was just in a cranky mood due to the look on my face, she said i've always been like this and every one thought i was just getting angry or uptight, and you know what i can feel a change in the me, like in a bad dream, i could heear mum saying oh she's out to it, she's gone and it scared me cause i could hear everything, and couldnt do anything about it. maybe if alcihole dose this i shoulsd drink when i have the take home eeg, so then it will take a definate reading, what do you think?
i did think it mostly happend during my menses but obviously not,
mum said i was off with the pixies for a whol minute, could this be right 1 minute? how long do people normaly have this happen. you know i have so many questions. i just dont see how this has gone unoticed for so long, thats why i think it must be progressing??? so say if some one has this , your saying it can get worse and that it dosnt always stay the same as its been.

Excessive alcohol will lower your threshold whether you're taking anything or not. Please be careful!

thanks everyone things are certainly making alot of sense now, sorry just finding it hard to come to terms with all this as i didnt know what was happening. looks to me as i'm going to have to change some sutff in my lifestyle no late nights better food intake and try to find a med that isnt going to alter my life too much. your probavly laughing at that statement i suppose it will take time to ajust to the meds, i dont want to give up work during this time as i love my job. dont know what hubbys going to do with the lighting system he just bought as its causing havoc with my head. and might have to start wearing sunny's where ever i go , dough!!!anyway thanks for the info, i realy mean that,

Jen I have to agree with the other members when they say that drinking is the worse thing you can do. I was having literally hundreds upon hundreds of seizures every single month whether I was drinking or not. Alcohol only seemed to intensify my seizures. Back then I didn't care though. I was so busy feeling sorry for myself.

My seizures got worse and worse with each passing year. Simply because my seizures were never controlled with medications for the over 30 years I had epilepsy. The longer they were not controlled with meds, the more seizures I had and the more my left hippocampus shrunk and became scarred tissue.

They're all right. But they also get worse over time. With seizures going on and on, that kills off brain cells. Then as that amount grows over time your seizures will get worse over the years. I started with simple partial, and then it went to complex partial. Now on top of those two types starting last year, grand mal has started up on me. That's how it's gone for me over that past 15 years.

Jen, It sounds like you have photosensitive epilepsy. Where certain lighting & blinking/moving things can cause seizures. I don't have this kind, I have CP's & my GM's are controled. Perhaps someone who knows more about photosensitive sz's will come & say something. I hope!
