More doctors are recommending DBS earlier

See, I knew I wasn't losing too much more of my mind than I already have. ha.
The reason so many YO patients are getting DBS so early is that there docs are pushing it. Look at the error of 50% - that's right. Only half are appropriate candidates.

This is interesting...

It isn't always clear exactly what is the right time for this therapy, but especially for Parkinson's disease, if the patient is amenable to medication changes, it is not appropriate to jump to the surgery right away.

Look at some drawbacks

Drawbacks of having DBS earlier:
  1. Unable to have DAT scans or MRI scans to check the progress of the diease
  2. Getting a neuro surgeon to install batteries. I am sure if I shopped around for a surgeon I would find one who would.
  3. Emotional effects.

Frankenstein

I strongly suspect that Frankenstein's monster had PD tanks to a poor choice of brains. He walked stiff and slow and he had mood changes. Brain fog prevented him from being articulate.

Clearly, the monster benefited from having an electrical charge in the brain But he was lucky enough to have built-in electrodes.
