interpretation of EEG result
 

I had EEG test a long time ago.
The neurologist I saw just gave me the report and referred me to another neurologist and said " he will explain it to you."

The next neurologist did not, and I disliked this one even more than the first one.

The report said :IMPRESSION : "This is an abnormal EEG recording due to presence of phase reversal in the mid central region"

Can anyone here explain it?

Hi Synnove,

The mid central region of the brain is where the brain stem is and that's
the area that controls a persons heart, conscious and many other things.
It could be possible that when they did the e.e.g. the found spikes meaning
more activity in that area of the brain that could be triggering possible sz.
If you aren't happy with your neuro start seeing an Epileptologist I have seen
many different neuros over the yrs. and I found out in the long run after I started seeing an Epileptologist that they knew much more about epilepsy and how to treat it.
Darlene gave you some great advice and I agree with her 100%. Start keeping track of any sz. you may have and write down what time they happen and they type of sz. you had. By doing this you Dr. may be able to see a pattern in any sz. you are having.

Yes, I had been keeping a record of the "strange" symptoms which my neuropathy neurologist suspected were symptoms of possible Simple Partial Seizures.
This particular neurologist is a professor at a teaching hospital. I was originally referred to him, and he diagnosed Sensory Motor polyneuropathy and Small Fiber Neuropathy. He is a little "laid back".

My local neurologist, is actually a neurointerventional neurologist, but also a general neurologist. I have stayed with him due to the fact that I feel he saved my life by coiling my cerebral aneurysm, and he has gotten to know me. He is good at referring me out when needed.
This doctor ordered 72 hour video recorded EEG, which was done at one of our local hospitals twice, and it turned out negative for seizure. The first time I had it, I had no symptoms during that time. During the second test, I had one episode.
But I never got to meet the assigned epileptologist who was overseeing the EEG procedure.

My symptoms were very frequent for a while, then less. I have them now. But I am getting so tired of it.
I have so many neurological symptoms and diagnoses.

My original brain MRI showed multiple bilateral white matter lesion suspicious of MS. - Cerebral aneurysm. (unraptured) - Lacunar Infarct. - A 2 cm left posterior frontal area a deep cerebral congenital venous angioma.- And bilateral vertebral artery vascular impingement on the medulla.
( I wonder if this has any thing to do with my symptoms) I might ask a neurosurgeon I saw last year.

I also have Ice Pick Migrane with aura. ( the aura is a zigzag bright light in my visual field, but I have not had that aura for a long while.
The headaches though, are quite sharp pain that feels like a spasm of the blood vessels. I get the pain coming right out in my face from the side.

I have seen MS specialist neuro twice. I have had numerous repeat MRI to check for new lesions, but all the reports just says stable lesions, or " no change".
I had negative Spinal Tap.

I have dizziness and vertigo.

I have seen doctors about all of the about. I just had a repeat brain MRI on 12/31, report said " no change". And I have not seen the neuro since. He said he was planning to set up some tests of Evoked Potentials.

I think I probably do not have seizures, thank heavens, but I wish the doctors could find out and tell me what these " strange" symptoms are.
I am thinking to plan for a visit to Hopkins.

Just like you I have bi lateral lesions on both the right and left temporal lobes of my brain and when I have a simple partial seizure also called an aura seizure I start to see colors of the rainbow in a zigzag design like you mentioned. My Epileptologist told me that what was causing me to see these colors was because neurons were firing up in the optical lobe of my brain where our eyesight is.

My aunt had MS and her neuro told her that there are many times when MS can lead into seizures. She took tegretol for some time to help her with her MS and she got steroid shots every other day, but she has passed away from liver failure probably do to all the meds they gave her.

I'm sure that the lesions you have are what is causing a lot of the problems you are having. You are playing it smart if you go to John Hopkins Hospital or you can go to Strong Memorial Hospital in upstate NY they rank number 5 in the US for treating people with epilepsy and other neuro problems. I've been going their since 1972 and I have found they are way ahead of many other hospitals. Here's wishing you only the best and May God Bless You!

I review EEG's for epileptologists, who are neurologists that specialize in seizure disorders. It is my job to know the characteristics of abnormalities, and make notes about them on the patient's EEG. Most phase reversals seen on an EEG are normal. One in the mid-central region indicates a person has entered a drowsy state. It's called a vertex wave.

I'm very curious about the expertise of the person who gave that impression. No epileptologist that I've ever worked with would ever describe an abnormality as "a phase reversal." Especially a phase reversal in the mid-central region.

If there is a concern about your possibly having seizures or epilepsy, I'd recommend finding a good epileptologist and having a repeat EEG done at a lab in a hospital where the EEG will be read and interpreted by an epileptologist.

Im a Parkinson patient.I use to go to a movement disorder clinic but found the doctors to be not the quality I need.The business model has kept them to rush their patients.It's sad because right now Im without a doctor but I'm determined in finding one that will work for me.
