Why is it taking so long

I am getting IVIG set up, yet why does the process take SO long.

It seems like its been a ridiculous process, is that usual? My doctor submitted her request to my insurance, which is usually great, yet they said it would be three days before they made any decisions. They have it marked as urgent, yet how is that urgent? That is taking longer than usual...

UH.
sick of feeling like this.

Unfortunately, due to the expense of IVIG (my clinic charges about $10,000/treatment), insurance companies do take a little longer to look at it.

Also, IVIG is not an officially recognized treatment for MG - it is considered experimental. My company is self-insured, but they do carry insurance for claims over $175,000. When my claims went beyond that, that insurance company refused to pay for the IVIG because it is "experimental".

When we researched all this, we did find that the "official" word is that it is experimental. Fortunately my doc knows it is the best thing for me!

Good luck and hang in there!

Tyson, The infusion centers that normally do IVIG are full of CANCER patients, a slightly more urgent situation than yours - to put it bluntly. They often do not have space right away. I know it's hard to be patient at your age but it often pays off.

Juanitad- Thanks for the information. Yeah I believe mine is the same (10,000/treatment).

Annie- Greatefully they are sending a nurse tomorrow at 3 to infuse me. Woooohoo.
