avoiding other autoimmune diseases

Many of us here have another autoimmune disease besides MG. I have Graves disease (under good control, not an issue right now). I am afraid of coming down with rheumatoid arthritis or lupus or MS in the future.

My neurologist says that even if the Imuran sends me into full remission, it might be a good idea to stay on it, because many patients relapse after they go off it. As long as I'm tolerating it, I plan to stay on it in the hopes of avoiding these other diseases. But I'd like to ask: what else can I do to help my body resist more autoimmune diseases? Are there special nutritional needs involved here? I know I need vitamin D3. What else? Thanks.

woke up this morning with aching hands. Thought, here we go, it's RA. I'm that paranoid. Then my husband reminded me that I spent yesterday wrestling with hardening melted white chocolate that I was trying to pipe into fancy designs for my son's birthday cake.

Reminds me of the time I was feeling frisky and decided to make some cheese sticks. After squeezing that tube for an hour I really paid. My hands cramped almost constantly the whole next day.

I can only think that foods and activities that help boost nutrition and reduce stress would contribute something - - though may not be preventative of anything. We can only do the best we can do. Increase fresh (hopefully not pesticide treated) raw or steamed veges, ingest anything and everything rich in anti-oxidants, lots of good water, plenty of rest, , little or no white stuff (sugar, wheat, salt)!

Now if I was only better at these things myself!!
