New Years Day

Do ya'll do anything special on New Year's Day? A special dinner or anything?

My Mom used to always fix a pork tenderloin, black eyed peas, turnip greens, cornbread and pound cake on New Years Day. I think I loved that meal more than Thanksgiving!

Leftovers were always better the second day. Black eyed peas with some green onion chopped up on top over some white rice. YUM!

I think I'm going to try and fix that meal this New Year's Day. I can't seem to get my greens to taste like my Mom's did but I can keep trying.

We went to my parents' for Xmas dinner so no leftovers for me!

I'll be cooking a turkey for New Year's Day for my kids and their families. With it we'll have stuffing, mashed potatoes, gravy, glazed carrots, brussel sprouts with cheese sauce and some kind of salad. Haven't decided on dessert yet, but it will involve cheesecake in one form or another...

I've never had black eyed peas or turnip greens but I love cornbread and pound cake. We always have cornbread with chili. Your meal sounds really good - you can't go wrong with pork! Sometimes we'll have a ham instead of turkey, but this year I didn't get enough turkey so ham can wait until Easter.

Carol, your dinner sounds really good. I haven't had brussel sprouts in years.....but I like them. Always thought they looked like little baby cabbages! :p

Oh yum yum yum, I LOVE those little cabbages! Mmmm!

New Year's Day was never a big deal in my family. My Mom and Dad always stayed up until midnight and watched the ball come down in Time Square. They always kissed at 11:59 and then at 12, so it would be the last thing they did that year, and the first thing they did the next. But we rarely had a big dinner or anything. My dad worked swing shifts, so lots of times he worked that day anyway.

My former inlaws always had a big feed (man, I miss her dinner rolls) but it was just another day to me. Maybe we'll start a new tradition this year and do something special. Pancakes?

Yum, B2Y, that sounds like great idea! Have a big breakfast for dinner. I used to love it when we'd have breakfast for dinner. French toast, sausages, scrambled eggs, cinnamon rolls. I haven't had any of that kind of food in soooooo long. That sounds like a great new tradition to start! :)

Our Traditional New Years meal was pork cabbage rolls, sourkraut w/tomato sauce. I don't have the strength this year. Will try to talk DD into doing it.....or at least pork an sourkraut. Yummmmmmmmmmm:D
