Weekly Check-In Aug 26-Sept 1, 2007

Hi Everyone..What a hot and muggy day today was!..I cut the grass this morning, and spent the rest of the day in the house with the AC blasting..I decided that I was going to take it easy, beacuse I spent too many hot and humid days in the garage building traps this month..Its going to cool down around Monday, so I'll pick up where I left off then

I finallly got my truck back on Thursday..$1800 later....Sometimes you just cant win..The new motor runs so much better than the one that was in there..I had no idea that the other one was on its way out, now that I have a comparison

Ive been feeling ok..My balance is not quite as good as it was, but its not that bad either..My hands arent as coordinated as they were, but my gait has improved somewhat, and fatigue is not as bad as it was..Six of one..Half a dozen of another..I cant complain

How was your week?

GregD 08-26-2007 11:31 AM

Hello,
Well, here we are at the start of another week. This is not going to be a fun week for us at all. My wife's mother passed away Friday morning. We have spent most of the weekend looking for life insurance policies and will and all of thoes good things. We don't even know if there was insurance or a will. We tried to get her to tells us where things were so when this time came we would be ready. Nothing doing.
She was forced to move into a nursing home about a year ago due to health problems that none of us could help with. She thought she had her house sold so she had some of the other kids clean it out and put stuff into storage. Well to make a long story short they just threw things. The sale of the house fell through. Needless to say this is turning into a nightmare.

Other than that.... not much else going on.

Sorry to hear the bad news Greg..Sounds like you got your hands full..When my mother passed last year all I found was a copy of the will with no seal on it..Thank God it wasnt much of a dilema

This is going to be a week of preparation for our trek to the great Northwest. Not the least of the decisions will be what to do with the dog while we are gone. Boarding at the "Zookeeper" kennel works fine for a week or less, but three weeks would be too long. The neighbors next door have volunteered to keep her in the past, but we have never left her anywhere this long before. If she were smaller, or our motor home were larger, we would consider taking her with us. She has enjoyed short, overnight trips in the woods nearby. This problem will have to be solved by this time next week. Stay tuned!

Here I come!

Greg, please accept my condolences for your wife and you in your sorrow and confusion. After watching my aunts argue and fight over Things after my grandmother's death, I'm thinking maybe it's just as well the Things got pitched.

I'm doing remarkably well, although it still takes four doctors to keep me in line. I'm still in the istradefylline (KW6002) clinical trials, and I totally recommend that anyone who can still get in a study of this stuff should try to. See pdpipeline.org or pdtrials.org. Everybody know what a clinical trial is? My hip is almost all healed, and believe me, the new joint works a whole lot better than the old one.

My stepdaughter had a boy, born the day the RAGBRAI bicycle ride across Iowa ended. My husband rode the 477 miles over 7 days and then went to his daughter's home in Iowa, where he did a lot of cooking and baby-holding. He beams if you call him Grandpa.

I took a beading class last week and found out I love designing and making bead jewelry. One really steady hand when "on" is enough. I want to incorporate them into some of my crochet projects, as well. Look out, world!

Have a good week, everyone.

Jaye

This week started off with a wonderful rain early early this morning...as mostof you know, evap coolers don't work well in humidity, and ours is no exception. Love the rain...woke up feeling like I was in a semi-warm sauna.

Yesterday I spent most of the day reading; Saturday wiped me out! For the first time since my diagnosis I have been diligent in taking my meds and take advantage of my good on times. So Saturday was a day of cleaning for me..curtains, windows, floors, laundry, inside of my car..I even pruned my herbs and cut back all my basil to dry (there was a ton of it, anyone need basil?!) Watched some fights at a friend's house that night and by 9:000 I was rudely nodding against the arm of their couch. But what a feeling, to get thigns done.

My symptoms are progressing...decided to visit my pcp each month so I could at least have the progression updated.
Greg, my condolences to your wife and family. Death is one of the biggest stressors in anyone's life, whether you are "prepared" or not.
Have a great week everyone..take care and God bless-Steph

Just a quick update.
My MIL did have life insurance. We finally found a hand written list that had 4 policy numbers and the insurance companies written on it. After calling the insurance companies we found that all 4 policies were still active. Talk about luck! We still don't know if there is a will as yet. At least we can give her a proper burial.
