Tingling Hands/Feet/Face - Blood Test Results

Hey everyone!

So I just got back from the good ol docs w/ my blood test results.

(review of my symptoms real quick, Started after a heavy summer of landscaping, started getting tingling, stiffness, in hands, which later became in feet, face (lips, nose, cheeks), the tingling travels and is veeery annoying. My hands feel stiff and they swell up and I feel friction along the sheath and tendon as i open and close hands) No carpal tunnel, nerve studies, mri's everything is normal.

Blood: ................. Range:

TSH: 3.58 MU/L ..... .3 - 4.7
T4 Free : 16.8 PMOL ..... 9.1 - 23.8
Free T3 : 3.9 PMOL ..... 2.5 - 5.7

Vitamind D: 47 .. ( Ideal 75-200 ) NMOL/L

Hematology is all normal with results in middle of range.

Magnesium Serum 0.79 MMOL .... (.65-1.05)

I cant remember who mentioned this in my introduction post but the fact that I got such high Vitamin D working in Sun 60 hours a week, then going indoors and not seeing the sun could have caused my tingling. Going from both extremes.

I live in Canada and my doc said 80% of poeple that get vit D tested have a low level.
My doc recommended 400 units x3ru i cant read the writing im assuming 3x per day but im not sure.

I have read on the board that many take Vit D and hopefully its the cuase of my probs and can be fixed :/
What VIT D should i start taking??

Thanks everyone!

yes,

Your Vit D may be a factor, but not the entire cause.

So start taking some D3, 5000IU daily and get retested. Now that summer is coming, you might get by with 2000IU daily, but that is dependent on how much sun you get daily when the weather is nice.

Your thyroid numbers are getting iffy esp for a young male. Something you should get retested. Canada has different concentrations reported, and you need to find out how they compare to US numbers. In US there are two scales now, .01-3 and .01-5. The second one is being dumped in favor of the first one for TSH levels.

There are thyroid mimics in the polluted environment now, and they contribute to hypothyroid being more common in males than before. Some are fire retardants in bedding and clothing and furniture. So this problem is getting more attention now.
You can Google it and see for yourself.

I see in your profile you are a fisherman? Did you get toxins and heavy metals done at the doctor's? The Great Lakes have limits on how much you can eat per month of large fish. Trout, Whitefish and other game fish. So you might have some heavy metal issues, that need testing.

Having stiff hands is the beginning of arthritis for some people.
That feeling is very common among us. You might investigate antioxidants, and fish oil, for their anti-inflammatory actions.
They really help. I am using the new Krill oil, and also use "smart foods" that contain Omega-3 s and this helps me alot to keep mobile. But good old quality fish oil works well too.
Grapeseed extract, is a good antioxidant to try. 300mg a day really helps some people. Good for allergies too.

Thanks for the update. I hope your finals are over and the stress is less now for you. That stress can't be helping...

Thanks MrsD !

My TSH as of 2 months ago was 6.8. My doc insisted that its nothing to worry about, now its half that so reconfirmed her beliefs. Weird though.

I only really fish int he summertime and not in the great lakes, smaller more private lakes.

If my doc doesnt give me anything for thyroid is there anything I can do about it?..

I will definitely add the Vit D and Fish oil to the list!

There is one small thing you can try for the thyroid.

Zinc and selenium are needed to convert T4 to T3, so taking a supplement that contains them may aid conversion in the tissue to active T3. Some young males are low in zinc since zinc is used in seminal fluid. So zinc may be a factor for you. Most quality multivits have both. Like Centrum.

OptiZinc is the best one for zinc alone and just one a day of that for a while is enough for most people.
