Great question. The study certainly gives some support to the contention that Azilect could be neuroprotective for PWP. However, it also implies that this may be limited to certain genotypes and also dependent on being combined with another enzyme (in this case, GBA).

I was happy to see that this research was conducted by a collaboration of world class doctors, universities and medical facilities, with multiple grants from a variety of foundations. Hopefully, this will help them move future research along at a faster pace and we don't have to wait 10 years for the next report. And, Teva wasn't involved in anyway, so we can feel comfortable about impartiality in the results.

From my point of view it supports the notion that if you can afford it, and you don't have debilitating side effects, you should be taking 1mg of rasagiline daily.
