I have just been diagnosed with a 14.88mm aneurysm with a 7mm wide mouth. I am having a stent placed across the mouth on Friday and in 6 weeks having the coils placed into the aneurysm.. The interventional radiologist says that to do it this way will ensure that the stent is securely in place prior to placing in the coils. I am very anxious with the two proceedures coming up and would welcome any feedback at what I can expect from this proceedure after it has been completed.

What effects can I expect it to inpact on me health wise
how long before returning back to work
what long term effects has the coiling had was it still successful

If anyone can assist me that has had this proceedure done would really assist me greatly

I'm sorry I don't have any experience with this and sorry you have to be here, my aneurysm is small and being watched. Hopefully, someone will come along and be able to give you some feedback, what I can do is be with you in prayer if you'd like. That's what family and friends did for me when I went in for my angiogram and I was stressed, scared and not knowing if everything was going to be ok.

I had my aneursym clipped, but I know a bit about the coiling. It is normally performed under light sedation or general anesthesia. They usually go up through the femerol artery at the groin to place the coil and stent. Recovery varies, but I'd plan to be back at work within 4 weeks. Most people return for follow up MRAs or arteriograms periodically to check to make sure the coils haven't gotten compacted. This usually doesn't happen, but if it does they can add more coils. Be sure to get your rest and not to push yourself while recovering. You may have headaches, you may not. Hope things go nice and smooth. Just think about leaving that hospital with that aneursym taken care of! :winky:

I had two Annie's one Clipped the other Coiled. If I had a choice (which I didn't) I would have wanted both coiled...not as invasive as a clipping and quicker to recover. The only down fall with the coil is you will still have to have MRI/MRA or angio's to check on them. Mine were done in the summer of 2004 and I still deal with problems they left me...short term memory is one of the biggest brain injury leaves us with. Mine were only 4mm but both thin and ready to rupture...they were discovered in a MRI/MRA when looking for MS. I had symptoms for 8 months...slurring,numbing on right side and both legs below the knee.As far as going back to work I can no longer work...with these brain Annie's it all about location,location....some people have a rupture and come out of them with no problems,others like me that did not ruptured had to have a year of PT/OT/SP. but remember the damage with me had started 8 months earlier.Brain aneurysms don't know age,race,gender,they are unpredictable big or small...
I know you'll do just great...just take a breath and know the doctors know what they are doing. After your surgery rest,don't be in a hurry to go back to work. Listen to your body...you'll know when it's time.:winky:

Coiled 6 mm annie on April 8, 2008
 

Hello.....I haven't been on for awhile......Just saw your post. I had a stent and coiling done on my 6 mm annie on April 8, 2008.... Had stent and coils done at the same time on the unruptured opthalmic annie... Was put under and woke up 5 hours later. I spent 2 days in neuroscience icu unit. I went back to work 3 weeks later. Feeling great !!! Good luck with your procedure.....
