Town of Onondaga (WSYR-TV) - They are a family coping with a number of disasters; First, their cattle farm was destroyed by fire, then their father took a bad fall, which caused him to develop Lou Gehrig’s disease. Now, a good Samaritan is doing what he can to help the family.

We last told you about the Luchsinger family in June. Back then, the Town of Onondaga came together to raise money for Jamie. The third generation farmer couldn't do the things he took for granted like tying his own shoes. Getting around his home became an obstacle course, because of small doorways that would not support his wheelchair.

When builder Scott McClerg heard about the Luchsingers, he offered to donate his services and the help of 40 of his workers to re-gut the family’s first floor of their home, so Jamie can avoid having to walk up the stairs to go to sleep.

The builder will also widen the doors, expand the bathroom, bring in a hospital bed, and brighten up the room Jamie will stay in. The family says it will make all of their lives easier.

Thursday night, the family began moving out of the home. They will not be back until November, at Scott McClerg request, because he wants everything to be a big surprise. He’s hoping it will be a happy surprise for a family who have dealt with a lot of unwelcome surprises lately.

Scott McClerg also helped convince some local businesses to donate materials to remodel the home, including Town and Country, Case Suppy, Roma Tile and Liverpool Lumber.
