Chest Pain with Fibro?
 

I don't think things can get any worse for me...Although I know a lot you probably deal with more than I do, so please don't take this as me thinking no one is suffering more than I.

Back to Chest Pain and ER visit...Around 6:00 pm last night I was taking a walk with our neighbors, not exerting myself. They have a two year old that was walking with us, so you can imagine there was a lot of stopping, then walking, then stopping and walking. So no real exertion. However, I became short of breathe during the end of the walk. Then my husband, son and I went out to eat. At that time my chest started to hurt. Once again became short of breathe, could not take deep breathes at all. It didn't hurt to move my upper torso or arms, just chest pain on left side behind left breast area. So I called the doctor on call and he, of course, told me to go to the ER.

Once in the ER they worked pretty fast to get me in and take EKG, blood and hook me up to the monitor. Doctor however felt that because I was only 33 that it couldn't be cardiac problems. He did a chest x-ray and gave me some gastrointestinal cocktail.

I take Prilosec every day, so I didn't think that that was the problem. Explained this to physician, but he still insisted that it was. I don't even think he waited on the blood test to be done. I was in and out with in 2 hours.

I went in with pain being on scale of 1 - 10 of an eight. I left the hospital with a nine. I explained to them that he hurt worse. I went to go to the restroom while in the bed, and that made my chest hurt worse. It purely exhausted me.
But they didn't seem to care. Still discharged in about 2 hours of total time.

My chest pain still has been alleviated by anything. He told me to double up on my Prilosec and the cocktail would take care of it last night. Well it didn't. I am still having pain and still can't take deep breathes. It is sharp when I try to take deep breathes, but is constant when breathing normally.

Does anyone have any ideas of what this could be? Has anyone with Fibro or some neurological problem dealt with this? I am very concerned. I have a call into my PCP and am waiting his call.

I only have a minute to post but thinking this is TOS like or maybe musclular. I often have a hard time breathing and for me its the muscles not working for a multitide of reasons.

Yes its called Costrocondritis. In normal words inflammation of the rib cartilage. I was dx'd with this when I was 18....long precursor to being dx'd with FM. I take OTC ibuprofen for it to help with the inflammation. Its a real pain when FM and the costro acts up at the same time!

I had the same thought Wendy did. Costocondritis.

I was diagnosed with it about 6 years ago. I also went to the ER. I went through EKG, had a treadmill test, was sent to the hospital where I was diagnosed with some CAD, ischemia, and was put on meds which still didn't help.

It took them 2 or 3 years to figure out that I also had costocodritis. My Dr. gave me triggerpoint injections in my chest area to calm it down, I later had to have surgery under my arm to have 3 inches of muscle taken out because of TOS, it was also contributing to the chest pain.

Every once in awhile it starts up again but not near as bad as it was. I had trouble finding a way to sleep at night because of it. I would cry from the pain so I know what you are talking about.

Hope you get it calmed down soon. I know how it feels.

You'd think the doctor would have thought of Costocondritis- it was an easy dx for my dr when I was pregnant 25 yrs ago.

I'm wondering if it is a muscle spasm or the nerve that runs under there??
can't recall the name right now... here it is- intercostal nerves

Many with TOS have gone to ER thinking heart because of this similar thing.

I assume the EKG was normal and any other heart related tests?

How are you doing now - any change?

I have had a problem with chest pains also. I went thru this this summer. Went into the hospital in early May. Was in there for 3 days. Mine turned out to be stress induced angina though. I went thru an endoscopy which they found a hiatal hernia( sp) and the gerd problem. But when I was in the hospital right when they took me back to the emergency room, they gave me a nitro pill anI felt better. This summer in July then I had a heart cath done. They didnt find anything . So they summed it up that with all the stress in my life that it was stress induced angina. But yet I get what your saying. Sometimes I feel like its more than that.

I am on Ultram ER , lidoderm patches, and mobic for pain. But I think I am getting a tolerance to something cause they arent helping as much. Been on them for about a year now. I really need to read about FM more. I just basically go by what my Dr says would be best. But I know sometimes that is not always the good way to go. I am not the best at absorbing information . And darnit I think I just hijacked this thread! I am so sorry.. I guess I get to rambling lol. :rolleyes:

Hi Missy -- Hope you're feeling better by now. Isn't it frustrating when those ER doctors insist every chest pain is related to gerd? After two such times, I didn't go a few times when having chest pain. This last time, a visiting nurse was here giving me my steroid infusion (MS) and she noticed my irregular heartbeat. Turned out to be atrial fibrillation, so am on blood thinners now. Fibro related? I don't know, but it hurts wherever it's coming from!
