Is it arthris or what?

My 24 yr old son recently went to the Dr cuz some of his joints often hurt. He works with computers & cuz he is typing all day his fingers lock up. Today he was kneeling in the tub, snaking the drain & his knees started 'killing him'. The dr told him that by the time he's 50 he will need new knees & new hips.

Did the doctor run any blood work on him? If the "Sed" rate (sedimentation)rate is elevated, it will show that there is inflammation in him somewhere and that can indicate that he MAY have arthritis. Not always, but sometimes. Then possibly he would take X-rays to see if any damage has been done to the joints, although I doubt it at his age.

There are tests for arthritis, so the doc should be doing some. Have your son ask his doc to run some. God bless and let us know how he comes out. Peace, Lee

Did the doctor mention osetoarthritis or rheumatoid? Just wondering how he "knows" your son will need knee replacement.

In addition to the testing Leesa cited, the doc might also want to do a bone scan. I know that with my onset (age 22 when it was terribly bad), no doctor had done the testing that could have "displayed" evidence of arthritis. A bone scan woulda done it, only... missed opportunity.
