Jaye Having Hip Replacement Tuesday

Hello all,

I saw Bemm's well wishes for Jaye in another thread and am copying it here to start its own thread.

Jaye will be hospitalized for surgery and physical therapy from Tuesday through Saturday. She will be calling and checking in with me so if you want to send her any thoughts or messages either post here or private message me.

Once she gets home on Saturday, she'll be able to talk by phone and computer.

SO Jaye, it goes without saying , friend, that you are in my thoughts and prayers and I'm looking forward to the day you can say you are pain, or at least ALMOST [dang PD] pain free.

Love and best of wishes,
Paula

GOOD LUCK Jaye.
If courage flags a bit, think of England's Queen Mum's hip replacements! She had two of them, and I remember a little vignette of her in a film clip of a church service: There was a lot of standing up and sitting down - and the Queen Mum was up and down and up again as quickly and as easily as the young people aroud her - and that was with two new hips - and she must have been well over thirty years older than you at the time.
Royal hips or real people's hips - the replacements really work.
I paid attention to it because it was quite jealous-making. I can't get up without a major struggle.

Mend well and quickly.

The very best wishes from birte

Jaye, you're going to be so happy you had this surgery. A hip replacement is a wonderful operation with an extremely high success rate. I'm a physical therapist, and have helped many people get moving again after the operation. I see them once they are discharged from the regional hospital, usually 5-7 days and by then many of them are saying they have no pain or just a little. (They are still on some kind of pain med, of course.)

Just do your exercises, and keep smiling! You will be looked after by acute orthopaedic physical therapists, and they may not know very much at all about PD - many of us have become very specialized and don't know much about other types of problems. You might even want to write up a little blurb for them about how you are affected now as far as mobility goes so they'll have a better understanding of where you're coming from.

I'll be thinking of you and praying for an excellent outcome.

Jaye:

This is a surgery with a really good response rate. I know people who have had both done...they were so pleased they think they'll do it again :D

I think the new hip comes with a 20 year warranty doesn't it? Where will you be in 20 years I wonder. Dancing at the Waldorf? May the Force be with you.
I'll say a little prayer for you that all will go as planned. JW

Best To You Jaye!

You will do well. (She lost 30 lbs. in preparation for the surgery!)

You're in our prayers for a doctor who is a perfectionist, a nursing staff that rules, and lots of friend support! (Notice I didn't even mentionn your hubby - he's da best already). ;)
