There is No God but God

Saddam Hussein's final words were "There is no God but Allah and I testify that Muhammad is the messenger of God."

I see Christians say there is no "God but God, and Jesus is the messenger of God."

Why are so many people eager to die for God? Why are so many people eager to commit murder for God?

Kathy
I dont know why people claim to commit murder or atrocities in God's Name

as you know, I am a Christian, but I believe that God IS God is GOD nomatter what people choose to call Him. He is God. period. He knows who He is and that is all that really matters to me.

I came across a wonderful prayer, attributed to Mother Teresa, and it really spoke volumes to me, You may already know it, but here it is again, cos it is one of those timeless truths that can never be repeated too often IMHO

Quote:

People are often unreasonable, illogical and self- centered.........
forgive them anyway.

if you are kind, people may accuse you of selfish, ulterior motives.....
be kind anyway.

if you are successful, you will win some false friends and some true enemies...
succeed anyway.

if you are honest and frank, people may cheat you............
be honest and frank anyway.

what you spend years building, someone could destroy overnight............
build anyway.

if you find serenity and happiness, they may be jealous.............
be happy anyway.

the good you do today, people will often forget tomorrow.............
do good anyway.

give the world the best you have, and it may never be enough..........
give the world the best you have anyway.

you see, in the final analysis, it is between you and God............
It was never between you and them anyway.

~~Mother Teresa~~

Thanks Cheri. She was an amazing person. The prayer was beautiful. I particularly liked the last two lines.

I have nothing against the Christian or Muslim faith, with the exception of all the atrocities committed in the name of God. The atrocities had nothing to do with God. It's strictly for political power and wealth, and a way to control the masses.

Seemed a little ironic that Hussein would be hung hours after the anniversary of Wounded Knee, where 300+ "heathen" women and children were gunned down and thrown in a mass grave some 100 years ago. They were murdered because we thought they were worshipping evil spirits. Turned out they were just people, and they were praying to God. We attacked them because we wanted their gold and land - had nothing to do with God or Jesus.

Helping others in need is a good thing - truly honors God. However, attempting to convert them is selfish - only honors ourselves, and it leads us to commit horrible atrocities.

As Mother Teresa said "You see, in the final analysis, it is between you and God............
It was never between you and them anyway. "

Happy New Year KathyM....

Life isn't fair....I learned that the hard way like a lot of people.

Frederick Buechner, in his book The Longing For Home wrote:

"The world floods in on all of us. The world can be kind, and it can be cruel. It can be beautiful, and it can be appalling. It can give us good reason to hope and good reason to give up all hope. It can strengthen our faith in a loving God, and it can decimate our faith. In our lives in the world, the temptation is always to go where the world takes us, to drift with whatever current happens to be running the strongest."

Life isn't fair but we can't ask God to be fair. If God is fair not one of us has a chance.

((Alffe))

Life sure isn't fair. Maybe it's all about learning how to say Hello in the right way - then learning how to say Good-Bye in the right way.

Seems to me it would be easier to learn these lessons if we stopped fighting over religion and took a closer look at ourselves. Religion should be the fuel that keeps us going. Our performance, not our declarations, should reflect the quality of our fuel.

"Our performance, not our declarations, should reflect the quality of our fuel."

Amen to that Kathy.....Spare me the labor...show me the baby!
