B12 results

Hello all,
I just got my results on some blood tests I had taken the other day. They were checking to see if I had any cancer floating around in my blood, and while they were doing that, I had them do a B12 test also. Well, good news on both. No signs of cancer, about a 1 1/2 cancer free now.
On the B12 there was a reading of 987. Stopped taking a week before the test. The last time I had a reading was more than a year or so ago and it was 286. With the knowledge of folks here I started taking 5000mcg a day. My feet are no longer numb and tingle. I have feeling in them again. I can't bend my toes yet, but hopefully in time that will improve. I have only been taking the pills for 6 months. My balance is still shot and I still walk flatfooted. But as my favorite saying goes... it could always be worse.:)

So, your current level looks good. What you don't know is if your level will fall if you stop completely.

I'd go by your response of improvement, that you need the B12 daily. You may not need 5mg a day now, and may maintain, (coast) at that new number if you reduce to 1mg daily.

That is up to you to decide.

I don't think you can expect fixing B12 will change your flat feet. ;)

Some low B12 is caused by genetic inheritance (pernicious anemia). And some is acquired, due to RX medications causing it, or lifestyle (veganism) causing it.

It was kinda funny when I called the Doctor's office about my blood levels. Like I said earlier, it was checking for any cancer and the B12. Well, the gal said your levels on your one look just fine, but your B12 levels are pretty high. You might want to talk to you doctor about that. I said that figure was just fine and it is all right.
I am still taking the B12. I just stopped taking a week before the blood was taken. My flatfooted walk is caused because my toes don't bend because of the PN. They kind of "slap" the floor when I walk.
I take Keppra and Topamax for epilepsy. It is completely controlled now. I first started to notice problems with my feet not long after I began taking Keppra. It began as a slight limp. Maybe it is just a coincidence I don't know. Thanks,
Gene
