Suddenly Deaf In My Right Ear

I Awoke On The Morning Of September 20th, Deaf In My Right Ear. It Was Diagnosed At The Mass Eye And Ear Infirmary As 'sudden Sensorineural Hearing Loss (sshl)'. After Treatment With Anti Viral Drugs And Prednisone Over Twenty-one Days My Hearing Has Not Returned. Looking To Hear (no Pun Intended) From People With Similar Loss And How The Hearing Has Progressed If Or Digressed Over Time.

Me too...

I was 30 when I too woke with no hearing in my left ear. When I looked at the previous few days I found I'd been very tired & just feeling unwell. I thought I'd just been working too hard. The worst part of it all was the "balance" situation. I couldn't stand to be moved for 10 days, which meant treatment was very difficult. Initially the diagnosis was a tumor. After that was ruled out it was put down to a "viral infection". Read, they didn't have a clue!

My hearing has never returned, but I learned to cope pretty quickly. Learn to lip read. I find that large gatherings are very difficult if you can't lip read. I'm upfront abt the problem, which does put some people on the back foot. When anyone unknown to me sits on my left side I explain that I am deaf & that if I don't respond I'm not ignoring them. Some people are really good abt it, others for some reason have no idea what to do, so they just don't talk to me.

I hope you have a better prognosis. All the best to you. :)
