The cousin of mine who took his own life also used a gun. :(

KathyM 07-03-2008 07:42 PM

It doesn't surprise me at all. :(

That is why I get so angry when people say they need to have a gun in order to keep themselves and their families safe. There are too many times in life when the pressure feels overwhelming, you feel cornered, and you want to lash out. Guns make it too easy to commit an "oops." You can't borrow an eraser and make it go away. Not only is it a permanent marker on you, it causes a painful stain on everyone else.

I suspect we are also going to see an increase in murder though. People seem to be longing for the "Wild West" days of justice and revenge. :(

I get a kick out of our mayor. He's looking more and more like his dad every day. I couldn't stand his dad, but I like him - especially when he gets mad. He works himself into a tizzy when he's passionate about something. :p

We just had a 3 y.o. boy find a gun in his mother's home. Put it to his head like he saw on TV and pulled the trigger - typical 3 y.o. imitation. :( Mayor Daley was at the podium practically spitting over the new gun laws. He screamed "What's it going to take to realize you can't settle disputes with GUNS!" He has a point - be it a dispute with someone else, or a dispute with yourself.

Yesterday a policeman out on patrol saw a woman acting erratically at the bus stop, so he tried to apprehend her. She managed to take his gun from him and shot him in the head - killed him. His buddies opened fire on the woman - she's in critical condition. If it had been a man, I suspect the policemen would have reloaded and continued shooting. I'd really like to know why that woman was upset at the bus stop. :(
