I got approved

I still in shock . .. I just got off the phone with my local SSA office. I have been approved. He gave me a monthly amount. He gave me what my three daughters will get paid (via my X). Applied Mid May 2015. Denied Once. Approved at the reconsideration level - today. Thanks all.

Can someone tell me about how the backpay stuff works? The young man on the phone was doing so . . . but as you know, I can't process too much info at a time to well. I'm still in shock.

So happy for you !

That is just wonderful news. Mine was pretty quick too and I was very thankful for that. I also had been denied originally and was approved at the reconsideration level in GA.

Again...so happy for you.

I was in shock for days after I got the news too.

Don't want to quote dates because I can't really remember them but I know I got my back pay pretty quick...even before my monthly benefits started. It came all in one lump sum.

Thank you for your kind and encouraging words. I'm still in shock. It will probably take me a few weeks to get over this! I thought the phone call from them this morning would be something like, "We need you to see this doctor and/or do this test and/or you didn't cross one of your T's on form number 764821... Grin.

Usually your LUMP SUM back pay is directly deposited directly into your account before you get your first monthly $$$. Usually within 30 days after you get your approval letter.
I would suggest that you check your account daily.

From what my attorney wrote me this afternoon(see below), it looks like I most likely will not be getting any backpay. That is OK. I'm thankful for monthly income for years and years. What do you think of what he wrote below? Thanks!

If they approve the eligible month being February 2015 when work stopped, then the next 5 months following you do not get back pay. That makes August-October (3 months) of back pay. If they use a later month it may wipeout back pay. If no back pay you do not owe me anything. Yes I would appreciate referrals to me. I handle cases in Kansas, Oklahoma, Missouri and Arkansas.

Wonderful news!

I am so happy for you. You must be thrilled.

I know when I got benefits I was SO relieved.

I was also rejected the first time and the lawyer supplied to me by my company said they most often reject folks 1-3 times before saying yes.

Like others I got a lump sum quickly although they did not give me from my exact month of leaving work...it was a few months after but, I was just grateful for what I received.

My best to you.

Echoes, thanks for all the kind words and help over the last year. I guess Mr. KU doc NOW finally has a 'patient' that is on SSDI. Ghez on him. I got my shrink and my GP to write letters. They were part of the reconsideration. My attorney said they are most likely the reason I got approved at reconsideration.
