I just bought a bicycle to ride (i'm 64) and with my sacroilliac issues need so PT to help with lifting leg up onto bike and for the butt and thigh pain. Of course just rode one time today and ouch! LOL do think I may need to get pt to loosen up. gaye

Bikes

Hi froglady,
With my lumbar and sacroillac trouble for the last near 7 years I use a recumdant bike. It is low, my legs are to the front, not as much pressure, the seat is wide. I bought mine at K-mart for about $89. Wore it out and looking for a bette one. I had a treadmill, but after the low back injury I did not walk as well as I could do the recumdant bike. My posture is much better in this position.

Hi Froglady,

Just wanted to say good for you!! I do hope it will help you with your back problems. It's good to hear when someone is trying to do all the right things. I just hope you don't over do it. Take it slow at first.

Good Luck,
Linda :)

I just bought a Recumbent Bike as well. I used one in PT and it helped a lot. It was delivered this weekend and both my husband and myself will use it considering our lumbar issues. And, well, I have weak pelvic floor issues as well. So, an upright bike was out of the question. Anyway, it will be interesting to see if this works out. I used it for the first time last night for about 5 minutes and I can tell I have stretched out my muscles...it feels good!

I wish you luck with your bike as well! As they say, water therapy and biking are good things to do to keep MOVING and help with the osteoarthritis which is what I have all over. :)

Rode again today and stayed on my diet plan. WOW, I am having fun! LOL

Dianne, I never thought of a recumbant bike. That would have been much better. OK, next time I will get one or maybe get one later. Gee, I am so dumb ! Due to an oversized rear I NEED a wider and bigger seat on my bike. will change that soon.

Thanks Linda, I am going to try real hard to take it slow so as to not make my sacro and knees worse. Right now knees are just a little sore.....sooooo easy I go.

Kathi, You are also smart to get the recumbant bike. I could use water therapy too stretch my old muscles, but it is expensive so can't do it now. Hope later if the biking is too hard on me, maybe I can get back to the pool.

Thanks Yall, Gaye :)
