Vitamin b12

Hi
Thought l would post my vitamin b12 blood results l had mid 2011.

Serum vitamin b12 assay:515pmol/L it states it is within normal range.

Also do l need to take these separate b,s with a multi b and do l need to take them with food?

Thanks Sue:)

This puts you at over 700...US units. So you seem to be okay in this regard.

Many of us keep our B12 at 1000 but 700 is not a mega issue.

However, if you are getting worse since then, you may have fallen lower, and B12 would be a good idea.

You can take 1000mcg of methyl orally on an empty stomach to see if you get any improvement. (serious dosing would be 5000mcg).

You can take B12 separately. The complex is given for the other B's because they tend to work together. B2 for example is in the cofactor that activates B6 pyridoxine to pyridoxal.

But many people take B1 separately because high doses for this are needed. I wouldn't take more than a B-50, and perhaps even a lower dosing would be all you need. The complex you can take with food. The empty stomach is only required for the B12 for optimum absorption. If you have intact intrinsic factor the food warning is less of an issue. I tend to recommend empty stomach because by the time people arrive here, they are really LOW and maybe due to lost intrinsic factor activity.
