concussion on Friday

I managed to give myself a concussion by standing up underneath an open cupboard door on Friday. It's been 3 days now, and I'm still feeling a bad headache, and some pressure in my eyes at times. I am TRYING so hard to rest, but I have three kids at home and have to get them back and forth to activities and such, and husband is working. So, my trying is not working so well. I am taking 2 extra strength tylenol and then four hours later, 3 ibuprofen. Still hurts! How long will this last? Oh, I was in the ER for 6 hours on Friday waiting for a CT scan that was 1 min in length. Thankfully, it was clear. Any ideas are welcome. Thanks.

Hi there, and welcome to the community! In case you haven't found it yet, we have a forum for Traumatic Brain Injury and Post Concussion Syndrome. Here's the link:

http://neurotalk.psychcentral.com/forum92.html

I think you'll find the information you want there, but some days are busier than others here, so have patience! We're all in the same boat!

Concussion

Check out the Traumstic Brain Injury and concussion sub-forum. Also I believe some take the maximum tylenol and asprin dosqges as a migrain treatment. Do you have any friends or family who can help you?

Hope you feel better soon.

Sorry for your concussion. It definately sounds like you could have
a post concussion.

But the best thing is resting and sleep for it. What I would do is keep
taking the extra strength tylenol if its working. I would not alternate
with Ibprofen unless there is swelling anymore.

THere is no problem with continuing to take the tylenol every four hours.

When it comes to taking the kids to activities. Do you have anyone
that you can car pool with for one thing.?
Or any friends that might help you get them to some of the activities?

Also wearing sunglasses when out in the sunlight will possibly help
with the eyes and headaches.

update on concussion/hematoma

went to primary dr yesterday. He says he's not sure that it was a concussion in the first place (but my husband disagrees), and he said I have a hematoma around the impact site. He didn't say what type of hematoma, but he thinks it's causing a tension headache...and that's why I'm in so much pain. I'm still trying to take it easy, and I do have some help, but he said I could do activity as tolerated and it's ok to drive. Is there a board here on hematoma? Thanks for all your responses. Oh, by the way, I had been Voltaren (NSAID) once a day day for arthritis. He wants me to take it three times per day and alternate with tylenol and take my migraine med (maxalt) if the pain gets really bad. I hate my maxalt because of side effects, so hopefully, I won't need it.

Thanks, again.

I have a consistent headache which is somewhat better with Voltaren. I have pressure behind my eyes and am somewhat lightheaded/dizzy at times. I also have Bipolar Disorder and take a cocktail of meds for that. My psychiatrist just lowered my Lamictal to see if that would help with the dizziness.

Thanks.

We have a Bi-polar group that is very active. That you are welcome
to come join.

We talk about many things there.

I am a active member in there.

I also have had concussions too.

I am not sure what a hemotoma is. But there are a couple of people
in our bi-polar group that can research things really well.
