Probably really off topic, but it's something I just thought of...

If a Medicaid patient who gets medicaid benefits from one state and is in a state miles away from thier home state (visiting or something, doesn't matter, its a scenario) but is in desperate need of emergency care in a different state clear accross the country, what happens.

Certainly, the people who gets things organized and settled in woun't turn you down just because you are on vacation and not under that state's medicaid program.

I'm only asking..... I am sure this has happened to someone here.

I appologize for such a riddiculous question... I know....

no reason to apologize at all

That is a legitimate question and should be asked. The state Medicaid offic that is providing your coverage can answer that question better than I could but I thought you should know that there was nothing wrong with the question you asked at all. It is a question I am sure many have asked.

Thanks, mister!
I'm still really considering one thing I found because I feel a little funny just sitting here without any major health crisises, ever (asside of the very rare shunt meltdown. So I want to kill two birds with one stone and go with the HIPPA rights. I just don't know how to go about it Do I need to request a "dissulution of medicaid rights" or something.

That way, I woun't feel so funny about just sitting here and rotting (seriously not by my choice, If I were you, I woudn't even ask about this..... )

I have been reading this link off and on and because this sort of topic (what I am talking about) has been brought up. I think it's legitimate that I go foreward with this. I really doubt the prices of insurance will be much of a problem because I'm not letting anyone borrow from me for the time being, I don't spend a lot anyway... besides that, SS will be raising the cost of living. (Even if the rates are just a tad higher because of my health......) Who knows.

I was "talking" to a friend the other night and.....

... she said that I probabally need to call ahead of time (before a medical emergency.) Before that, I was talking to someone and they said all I needed was proper autorization..... Though, since NEUROSURGERY is pretty much emergency surgery, I think it's ok.

As someone in the UK, who recieves free healthcare thanks to our National Health Service........however slowly, I have always considered myself very lucky in considering people in other countries, and how they pay for so many complex and no doubt expensive operations.

Until recently, I have wondered how people manage to pay for their hydrocephalus operations in the states, and how the heck they manage to get insured. So because of this, I'm just wondering, as a side issue, do you find the health costs associated with the condition large?.

I dont honestly know how I'd cope if I had to pay for my medical problems and who the heck would cover me.

Thankfully, I don't have that answer

yet. I have also never ran accross anything that said you couldn't get medical help if you just happen to be in a different state. (Much less anything that said you must be in your state to get help at all. No matter what. Wich got me thinking of my original scenario anyway.)

So, if I understand corectly, it's ok. I'll get help no matter where I am.

Thank you.
